Words That Stay with You

Never underestimate the power of music in your Christian life. I find it is a great help in reinforcing Christian truths.

Last week, as our music group practiced the songs for Sunday, one of them was The Potter’s Hand. It was one I hadn’t been familiar with until I came to my current church after we moved house but the words of the song have stayed with me throughout the week like a daily prayer.

Have a look at the words here and see if maybe you might want to adopt them as a daily prayer perhaps to start the day.

After all isn’t that what the Christian life is all about, being called and guided and molded and used by God?

That’s the value of music; the words hang around in your head and come back at various times throughout the day. It’s even better when the words are words of scripture. One of the songs we will be singing this week is He Was Pierced which takes its word directly from Isaiah 53, particularly verses 5-7. What a beautiful way to remember the price our Lord Jesus paid for our sins.

Then we practiced My Hope is Built an old hymn with great words that has been given a new tune. That sent one of the people listening to us practice to his bible looking for where it came. I knew it was Matthew’s gospel but couldn’t remember exactly where. It sent us back to God’s Word. You will find it after the beatitudes where Jesus tells the story of the wise man who built his house upon a rock Matthew 7:24-27.

Of course the rock we need to build our, lives on is Jesus and on God‘s Word which is where we learn more about Jesus and what He requires of us. It is only through Jesus that we can come ‘Before the Throne of God Above’ knowing that who we have one in Heaven who has paid the price and now pleads for us.

I’m so glad that God gave us music and clever people to write such meaningful words to reinforce His truths, aren’t you?
