Workout DVD Review: Tai Chi and Qi Gong Basics

Tai Chi and Qi Gong Basics will be available for purchase on March 22, 2011. It is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com. If you have never taken a Tai Chi class or heard of Qi Gong this is a great place to start. Until this DVD I had only seen Tai Chi on TV and had no idea what Qi Gong meant. I was a bit excited and intimidated at the same time. Tai Chi sounds so precise and serious. Qi Gong just sounded like something on a take-out menu. My husband used to practice martial arts, so I knew how exact, serious, and quiet the techniques could be. I am not exact, serious or quiet. Thankfully, I was in my own home so there was no fearing getting kicked out of a dojo.

Tai Chi and Qi Gong Basics is led by Matthew Cohen who has been a martial arts expert for 30 years. When he is not appearing in home DVD videos, you can find him in Santa Monica teaching at the center he founded, Sacred Energy Arts Center. He is also noted for speaking, holding workshops, training and teaching around the world. In addition, there is a bonus feature on the DVD where Matthew Cohen discusses the benefits of Tai Chi and Qi Gong.

So what is Qi Gong? Maybe I am the only one who was perplexed but in case I am not, Qi Gong conditions the body through slow, natural and repetitive movements. It is said to stimulate the immune system.

The DVD consists of a brand new Tai Chi program that is 30 minutes long, a 40 minute long Qi Gong program and a previously released Qi Gong: Fire and Water. That DVD is a total of 70 minutes long and will cost $19.99. If you have an interest in Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or martial arts, this is a great DVD to start with!
