Yoga Recess

Yoga Recess is an initiative of the Yoga Health Foundation to bring yoga to children across the United States. The organization is hoping to raise $10,000 by the end of April and use the money to provide free Yoga Recess DVDs to teachers throughout the country to use with their students.

The goal is not only to introduce yoga to children, but to allow kids the opportunity to enjoy the many physical and emotional benefits of yoga. Concerns about the health of our children have been expressed by nearly every segment of society.

The Yoga Health Foundation is highlighting the benefits for kids that include fighting childhood obesity, which is reaching epidemic proportions and preventing chronic illness, such as type 2 diabetes and many other illnesses and health conditions that can result from obesity.

There are many reasons to start teaching yoga to children at a young age. Although there are many benefits to the various sports and games played at recess with children, most of these activities will be abandoned by the time the kids are grown.

In contrast, yoga is a life long exercise form that can be used from the age of two to one hundred and two, or beyond. By teaching yoga to children, teachers are introducing children to an activity they can enjoy at all stages of their lives.

For every donation of $25 the Yoga Health Foundation receives, the group will send one Yoga Recess DVD to a teacher in the United States. The DVD is designed for teachers to use with students and is a high interest practice that children really enjoy.

To learn more about this worthy cause, donate money to help them reach their goal, or request a DVD for a teacher, you can visit the website set up for this project. The website is yoga-recess.org.
