Young Love = Rockin’ Wedding

To most people she’s best known for her Grammy-nominated album, but around our home she’s better known as the voice of the possum in the animated film “Over the Hedge.” Now, Avril Lavinge can add new bride to her list of accomplishments.

PEOPLE magazine reports that Lavinge and her boyfriend of two years, Deryck Whibley wed Saturday afternoon in California surrounded by dozens of family and friends from their native Canada. The magazine reports that Lavinge wore a Vera Wang wedding gown and carried a bouquet of white roses. The couple took advantage of the beautiful summer weather during their outdoor, non-denominational ceremony and exchanged vows under an awning decorated in flowers that complimented Lavinge’s bouquet.

The pair also compliments one another, according to wedding guests. Like Lavigne, Whibley is also from the world of music. Currently, he is serving as the frontman for the rock band Sum 41. The couple got engaged a little more than a year ago in Venice, Italy where Lavigne was wrapping up her European tour. Lavigne had just turned 20 when Whibley asked her to marry him.

Ah, young love. Lavigne, now 21 and Whibley, 26 toyed with the press about their relationship prior to announcing their engagement. In late 2004 widely published pictures showed Lavigne sporting a small pink heart-shaped tattoo with the letter “D” on her right wrist, a tribute to Whibley. A few months later Whibley was spotted wearing a silver band on his left ring finger, which sparked rumors that the pair had already tied the knot.

But the real deal occurred Saturday when, according to PEOPLE magazine, guests were “treated to an outdoor cocktail hour before the reception, including a sit-down dinner. In contrast to the all-white ceremony, the reception had a red theme, with centerpieces of red roses and other flowers.”

As for the rest of the reception–Frank Sinatra’s tunes were not on the DJ’s list, rather it’s been reported that the couple’s first dance was to the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris.”
