The church leaders have announced that they are changing the young women’s theme by adding a new value to it. The new value will be virtue. This will help the young women to focus more on being pure and having the psirt with them at all times. The Young Women’s presidency will announce changes to the Personal Progress materials as soon as they are available.
This is a welcome addition to the young women’s theme. Virtue is a value that is being overlooked and forgotten in much of today’s society. This will allow the young women and the leaders to focus on virtue. The church’s site says: “Virtue is a pattern of thought and behavior based on high moral standards. It encompasses chastity and moral purity.”
As parents we can support this addition by having a family home evening lesson about virtue, and by discussing with our children the importance of virtue. It also important be an example to our children in our life choices. This value can help young women to focus on staying pure so that they can attend the temple when they are adults.
This value in many ways encompasses the other values, but takes them a step further by encouraging the young women to stay clean in both body and mind. This can be difficult when assaulted by all the images in the media. The For Strength of Youth booklet offers many suggestions that can help both young women and young men live virtuous lives.
About five years ago the church changed the theme to include the phrase strengthen home and family in the young women theme as well. This encouraged young women to prepare to have a family as well as to help bring the spirit to their families at home. The theme can have a lasting affect on the girls as they study it and make it a part of their lives.
