Your Multi Purpose Dishwasher

Most of us can’t imagine living without our dishwashers. When the kitchen is a battle zone, the trusty dishwasher comes to the rescue. Did you know there are things you can do with your dishwasher besides wash dishes?

Baseball caps clean up great in the dishwasher, they don’t get bent like they do in the washer, just don’t throw any dishes in with them because the food could get stuck in the fabric.

All those little toys and action figures that your toddler is always sticking in his mouth, throw them in a lingerie bag and toss in the dishwasher. Don’t wash dolls with hair, the hair will never be the same.

You can also throw flip flops and rain boots in there, make sure you remove the liners in the boots. Tools, including gardening tools, as long as they have plastic or metal handles will do just fine in the dishwasher.

Need potatoes for dinner? Throw them in the dishwasher, on the top rack in a rinse only cycle.

There are also some things that should not go in the dishwasher, like cast iron or copper pots and pans. Also, your formal dishes and flatware should not do any time in the dishwasher, it will cause them to get worn. Better to wash by hand.

Some other things to leave out of the dishwasher include, wooden spoons and cutting boards, they can warp and crack. Anything brass, the hot water will remove the protective layer on brass.

Crystal glasses are really fragile, food can etch them and the heat can crack them.

Insulated cups and containers have vacuum seals that can be destroyed by the force of the dishwasher.

I’ve also been told that you can cook salmon in your dishwasher, it doesn’t really sound all that appetizing to me, and the smell that would remain, I think I can do without that!
