Zune: An MP3 Player With Sharing Capabilities

Are your teens addicted to their ipods? Did you think once you bought your teen their video iPod you would be done buying tech products for a while? Think again. Coming soon to an electronics store near you is Zune.

Zune for the most part is an iPod video. The device will allow you to listen to mp3’s and watch videos with one very important catch; you can also share them with friends. Zune will have a built-in wireless transmitter that will allow you to transfer video and music files to friends who are also using Zune. Zune users will also be able to send messages back and forth similar to instant messenger.

I imagine it will be bout a day before these things are banned in every classroom across the country. I would assume that ipods are not allowed in class, but the Zune totally takes that to a new level by allowing sharing between devices. Passing notes on a Zune is a far cry from the folded up footballs I passed notes with when I was in school.

Sharing music with another person, last time I checked, was also theoretically an illegal activity. I wonder how Zune will manage to get around the law to allow users to trade music and video files between devices, something that on a computer will get you slapped with a huge fine.

Zune has been described as a “hardware version of myspace” with its ability to easily connect to friends and share files.

This is one of those devices that we heard myths about when we were younger, at least I did. Something that would allow you to send things back and forth to your friends instantly, and wireless note passing in class. I can remember dreaming of such contraptions, and now those contraptions are becoming a reality.

Early prototypes of Zune are being shown at electronics shows now, the device is expected to go on the market for consumers soon.
