18 May 2006 12:49 PM Need to See the Beach!
Looking at this beach photo that Dean posted makes me want to go visit California and sit by the ocean. It looks so refreshing and fun. Of course, Dean took this shot while he was in Austrailia, but California is a lot closer and will have to do. Dean Householder (925) 19 May 2006 12:49 AMThis was a really interesting beach as it had a grassy area, then a sandy area. I've never seen this in the USA! rthibault (60) 22 Aug 2006 08:36 AMGrowing up in Maine, I lived near a lake that had this same sort of beach with grass above. Just try to picture the entire scene scaled down by at least a factor of ten! rthibault (60) 24 Aug 2006 12:25 PMThe water doesn't really ever reach what I would call warm. There are some spots where there will be seasonal warming, and other spots that stay pretty frigid year-round. I guess it has to do with the currents - proximity to deeper cold currents vs. shallower warmer currents or more stagnant water. I remember the beach at Reed State Park as having the coldest water I had ever experienced and that the water at Popham and Old Orchard Beaches allowed for staying in a playing in the waves for a while. If we wanted to spend a lot of time in the water, we were better off going to a lake. I have been fleeing from the cold my entire life and now live in San Diego.
