Six Steps to Potty Train Your Special Needs Child - Blog Entry

02 Aug 2006 01:40 PM

My son Matthew is ten and not ready. We were discussing this earlier today during a home visit with Feeding therapist and another therapist. He does not have solid bowel movements and we need to add something to his diet to get there.

I have the toilet training kids with autism book that lists all the steps, so maybe in six months this can get accomplished.

You lucked out in getting the professionals to guide you.

Zucchini Cobbler - Blog Entry

I get at Trader Joe's Fruit & veggie bears - dietary supplement by L'il Critters. They are tasty sour fruit and veggie gummy bears and my son loves them. There is no wheat, milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, artifical colors or preservatives and it includes Vitamins A, C and E. One of the ingredients is black carrot juice concentrate.

There was also a company called healthy sprinkles. I bought a shaker of pineapple powder and put it on the popcorn. Bonnie Sayers http://autismspectrumdisorders.bellaonline.com

Thanks and luckily that heat wave left CA - we had 17 days in a row of over 90 degree temps. Do you have a section here where you review the kitchen gadgets?

What Happens At The Hospital Following Serious Injury Of A Child? - Blog Entry

31 Jul 2006 05:29 PM

Thanks for sharing this very personal tragedy Anna. It is very helpful for other families to know what lies ahead after a serious injury. I have all of us signed up for brain tissue donation (for autism research), which has a timeline to adhere to and only a limited number of hospitals involved.

A wonderful program was on lifetime tv for several years, ended a year ago (Strong Medicine) and they covered these topics in detail. There is a lot of preparation involved in being a parent.

5-Things To Know If Your Child Has To Fly To A Trauma Hospital - Blog Entry

30 Jul 2006 07:15 PM

I hate signing those field trip consent forms saying that if something happens I cannot get school to pay or sue them, etc. Many times my kids do not go on the trips. This coming school year I am buying the extra school insurance for extra protection. Our location is very close to Children's Hospital in Los Angeles and most accidents happen close to home, so I hear on the news.

A Necessary Dose of Mommy or Daddy: Visitation and the Special Needs Child - Blog Entry

30 Jul 2006 06:11 PM

My ex has supervised visitation, although has not followed through since court order in taking classes before he can start them again. I went through the court system and never had an attorney. He on the other hand did and it made no difference. The custody evaluator wrote a 25 page report and even mentioned the father should shave beard and moustache if wanting to maintain a relationship with kids due to the sensory issues of the hair on face.

Equal Access Laws for Homeschoolers - Blog Entry

Here is a case in point - Maine Playground discrimination case. Kid on the autism spectrum is homeschooled and the parents want him to use an elementary school playground at recess and he has had isues with students at the school there.

I followed the suit for awhile, but not in agreement with parents and think it is not fair to the kid, who is older and most likely confused. There are plenty of parks he can play at.
