I would think visiting a gym and checking out the facilities and locker room would be the first step in choosing a gym. I used to belong to Bally's in the 80s (Hollywood) and had no problems. Been a member now for several years at 24 hour fitness and have used child care and been to several clubs (pasadena and glendale).

I try to go 4 times a week and spend at least an hour each visit.

"Brother for Sale." Helping Kids Cope with their Sibling's Disability - Blog Entry

21 Jun 2006 03:32 PM

Good article Kristyn -

I just found out that both my kids will be attending the same classroom at their daycamp and not too happy about it since I feel it is not fair to my HFA child.

Also I grew up with a younger sister who had a brain tumor and became blind after a few surgeries around the age of 9 or 10. My brother and I were forced to take my sister with us when we went places. Meanwhile my parents would leave her in the car when they went out. She still lives at home and is turning 40 in a few months. One of the reasons why I parent much differently and ceased communication with them several years ago to avoid negativity.

I was a bit confused since the focus of this was on osteroporosis and the title states get more calcium. I was under the impression this would cover ways to get more calcium in our diets.

Backyard Trampolines May Lead To Cancelled Homeowner Insurance - Blog Entry

20 Jun 2006 03:36 PM

Great timely article. I saw your comment on the trampoline article that I posted on yesterday as well. Very quick in getting this posted.

In fact, the repeated episode of Super Nanny showed a family with one of these large trampolines in the back yard. I wish shows would do a disclaimer on these. A good alternate option is the Jump-O-Lene.

Life to the LEFT! - Journal Entry

Thanks for the wake up call. My 11 year old is left handed and I appreciate knowing these things. Actually he can use both so maybe it is not an issue. Would be nice to see a visual on how to correctly set his table, etc.

Summer Fun - Say Yes to a Trampoline - Blog Entry

19 Jun 2006 08:27 PM

I would advise to use caution when someone other than your own child wants to use the trampoline. This needs to be added to the home owners insurance policy and get permission from parent before someone uses it.

A child came over with parent a few years ago and was playing around when we told him not to and he twisted his ankle on it. I have read of kids being injured on trampolines, mine never were, but make visitors aware that this is in the home and get permission beforehand.

Disneyland and Special Needs Families - Blog Entry

19 Jun 2006 06:20 PM

We are in Los Angeles and never been to Disneyland. We did Sea World last year and they enjoyed it and will be doing it again next year. We must be the odd family as my 11 year old has never wanted to go there.

I went once when I first moved to CA back in 86 and then two years later did Epcot in FL.

Very good to read what they did previously for your child to get his meds, etc.

Taxi Tips: How To Avoid Being Taken For A "Ride" - Blog Entry

13 Jun 2006 04:34 PM

When I was in between cars we would use a taxi to get to therapy appts and it was paid by the state. I always requested a car and not a van since there are no windows to open and it is like dead air there in summer (we are in Los Angeles). I refused to get into those death traps. Then with the regular cars the driver always wanted to drive off before I had my kids buckled in - they were very inpatient.

They were discussing this on the news the other day about rides to LAX and over charging. Nice timely article
