Of course with my odlest I knew without a doubt home was for her - but it's hard to figure out if we should or shouldn't with the 4 year old. Home Schools Run by Well Meaning Amateurs: Part 1 - Blog Entry30 Sep 2006 06:37 PM I think that David assumes teachers know 100% of the content they teach, when in fact, most teachers don't know it all ... they have to review it before they teach it. They are human afterall, and in my state, a teaching degree for elementary education is for kindergarten through 8th grade! I think very few people in the world, teachers and non-teachers, would be able to *know everything that you might possibly have to teach to kindergartners all the way through 8th grade! Such a big span! =) So I feel I am just as qualified to teach my children as the teachers are because I can review the text prior to reading it as well ... And as far as classroom management skills, well, since I don't have an entire classroom, I think that's a moot point! LOL! That's my story, and that's what I tell people when they ask if I'm "qualified" Parenting Predicament: Kissing and Your Preschooler - Blog Entry20 Sep 2006 08:27 PM Of course there is no one right answer with this issue! I just wanted to make sure I was reading the comment correctly and so asked for clarification. Should Textbooks Be Written To Include Homosexual Achievements? - Blog Entry20 Sep 2006 04:14 PM I just want to say that I agree with this part "do not have a problem with the accomplishments of homosexual individuals being included in history textbooks. If they accomplished something historically noteworthy then they should be included. Their sexual orientation should not be an issue or even mentioned." Accomplishments that are important to history should be in the books. Sexual orientation does not need to be stated. Parenting Predicament: Kissing and Your Preschooler - Blog Entry20 Sep 2006 04:03 PM Myra, you don't let your 5 year old kiss you on the lips? Just making sure I'm reading this right! Parenting Predicament: Kissing and Your Preschooler - Blog Entry19 Sep 2006 09:37 PM My dd likes to give her daddy and I longer kisses every so often. We never thought to stop it honestly. ::shrug::: Before long she won't want kisses anymore. I'll take them while I can get them. I don't think what you did was wrong, but I wouldn't have stopped it honestly and told him it wasn't allowed. But if you felt uncomfortable with it, then yes, I think you did the right thing because you wouldn't want him to sense you were uncomfortable simply because he was kissing you when the real issue is how he is kissing you. Because that could upset him a lot more in the long run. Why I Don't Believe in Early Childhood Education - Blog Entry15 Sep 2006 09:18 AM Valorie, I don't think a 4 year old should have homework, aside from, bring something for show-n-tell or a picture of yourself tomorrow to hang on the board either. And it breaks me heart to have a mom tell me her child is not only getting actual worksheets but then started to show that she's getting slightly stressed over it. Why I Don't Believe in Early Childhood Education - Blog Entry15 Sep 2006 09:16 AM Most of the studied I have read have said that kids who do pre-k are ahead of their peers until about 2nd grade. At 2nd grade the jump stops and by 4th grade kids are pretty much back on even ground. Why I Don't Believe in Early Childhood Education - Blog Entry14 Sep 2006 12:22 PM I just read about a mom who has to help her 4 year old with her preschool homework. Mom also mentioned that the daughter does seem a little stressed about it, so they take breaks. I just don't think 4 year old should be stressed about homework ... not even just a little bit! |
