I had no idea there was any such thing as PRE-partum depression, until I had it! And there I was, happily married, two great kids, looking forward to the baby, but still, a crushing depression and sometimes rages that left me wanting to do something terrible. You're right, getting help is best; we're in no fit state to help ourselves when it hits. Hope you're doing all right these days... hang in there! Removed15 Aug 2006 08:33 AM I know how you're feeling...and I'll bet a lot of other women here will too. It's VERY hard when you shift into "baby gear" without the baby! This happened to me when my son was about a year old, and he was so absolutely perfect I couldn't wait for the next one. But the next one didn't come, month after month, then year after year. I thought I'd lose my mind, all I could think was "baby", their smell, their toothless smiles, their little clothes.... you know what it's like. Finally, I had a positive pregnancy test, and was overjoyed; my son was five years old. But, it ended in miscarriage, and worse, THREE female relatives of mine were pregnant at the same time. I was desperate. Two years later, I finally have my little baby, and am overjoyed again... but wondering why I was so eager to go through these sleepless nights and the endless laundry again! You're very lucky to have a wonderful son and husband, and also lucky to be going to college---enjoy those all you can! Meanwhile, talking might help, especially to any girlfriends you have, or your mother-in-law. I have a sweetie of a husband, but I don't think he ever really understood why I would get so depressed over it. Or if he did, he wasn't saying anything! A local support group might help. Women who have been through a miscarriage or who are fighting infertility will understand you very well. Good luck! |
