We had her tested for dyslexia, had her eyes tested, and so on and so on and so on. We did the private tutors, the tutors that advertise on TV, etc. We were spending so much time at home studying with her and doing homework that she was so exhausted school was literally frying her brain. She would study for test and know the material inside out if you asked her, then on paper - you could have put Chinese symbols on the paper and received the same results. I have figure that she has terrible test phobia. She is still very slow at reading but we have all day, right. She actually had a teacher stand up in the classroom one day and told her piers not to help her sound out words. This same teacher was a self proclaimed ADHD'r. My daughter and her did not work well at all together. This test is state required 3-day test. She knows that it is a timed test and dreads them every year since she was in the 1st grade. As far as deschooling - There is not much do deschool as I too was homeschooled and it wasn't until the last 6 years was I even aware of what it was like in a school setting. We redo so much at her request because sometimes she reads so slow that her comprehension of the material or the questions being asked puts her in another land. I do however have to give her Kudos tonight. We went to the bookstore and for the first time in her life she picked out her own books to read. You have no idea what a huge milestone this is in our house. Her wanting to read - without asking her too - HUGE!!!! Vocabulary Word of the day: Mastery (Mast-er-ee) - Blog Entry21 Feb 2007 11:48 AM As I am new to this site, this is the most appropriate place I have found to ask this question. Next month my daughter is scheduled to take her Achievement Testing at the facility we umbrella with. She is currently in the fifth grade and freaked out that someone will "judge" her. She is very sensetive to what others think of her in a "school" setting. We decided to homeschool this year after we figured out that the teaching style in the private school was not how she learned. I too have the phylosophy that she can make no less than a 90, and we re-do ALOT. Now on to my question - I know that the testing always test beyond what the standard level of education is, but what do I do to prepare her for this test. When I taught High School we always set aside @2 week to prepare them. Is there something out there I can get to prepare her for these mastery test? 1 2 |
