I take the big glossy decorating magazine spreads as nothing short of a challenge and set out to create the general look that appeals to me nd retain some pride at not depriving my children the chance at a secondary education for the sake of "a great duvet". :-) Under $3.00 Decorating Idea19 Jan 2008 12:20 PM Something we do, mostly born of my desperation a few years ago with a toddler daughter who hoarded EVERYTHING...retain bits of broken crayons in an egg carton. I cut one to fit in my kitchen "crapola drawer" and pitched them in as I found them around the house--it wasn't perfect, pinks/reds/oranges together, the blue/green/purples the neutrals. When enough was accumulated, daughter and I would melt down like colors and used wax from canning jellies and make our own candles. Her favorites were made with milk cartons filled with ice cubes/shards then covered in hot wax--when peeled/drained, they make a super-interesting candle of craters and pocks and color variants. |
