Rosh Hashana 5767

Well, our first chag in California and we survived it. Our stuff hasn't come yet (hopefully before Succot) and we haven't sorted out internet or long distance service yet so communication possibilities are not wonderful.

Maor has good days and bad days. There is one girl in her class who she is very friendly with but another girl (davka an Israeli girl) who she fights with like cats and dogs. She misses Israel and her friends very much. We got her a bicycle which helps a little but with getting home late from school and homework she hasn't had so many opportunities to ride.

One of the best things about America/California is the public library. Besides internet access which allows me to keep my sanity and books which you know I can't live without, there are DVDs to take out, including for kids which makes Maor happy. Of course one of our first purchases was an inexpensive TV and DVD and now Maor is lobbying for cable. The problem is that reception is awful without it and I don't know how long I will live without tv. We'll see.

Rosh Hashana was ok. Tefilla is very long, the tunes are unfamiliar, and we don't really know people. We ate one meal out which was very nice. We were invited for another meal but by a family who lives very far (over 2 miles from the shul) and neither Maor nor I wanted to walk it. Maor doesn't know people in our area really and even those she does know, we need to walk her to people's houses. So it is very different from what she is used to on Zufim where we basically didn't see her on Shabbat or chagim (or during the week for that matter) so that is also very hard.

I am trying to work on my essay for my college application and I am stuck. I need to get my act together and finish it.

Arthur will probably start traveling in October.

We are looking for a second car. Right now we all leave together in the morning, drop Maor off at school, Arthur at work. Then I pick Maor up at 15:45 and Arthur at about 17:00. Yup, American hours.

Want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a shana tova and gmar chatima tova.
