Cheap Appliances: An Ice Cream Maker for $5

appliancesSomeone who is looking for small appliances to replace old ones or to stock a new home is in luck. Right now, there are many different ways that you can pick up small appliances for really cheap prices.

What is the average cost of a small appliance? Of course, it depends on the appliance, but if you take a quick look at all of the must-have-it appliances advertised on television, you know the ones that are available for three or four payments of $19.99, plus the average cost of appliances bought in the store, you are looking at somewhere between $50 and $300.

How about getting those same appliances for $4 to $25 instead?

The great thing about small appliances is that they generally end up on the second hand market, and many times they are still in their boxes, opened but not used. One reason is because many people give small appliances as gifts, and the new owners never use them. Another reason is that most of us are vulnerable to the newest shiny appliances that we see on television and the stores. The ice cream makers, the bread makers, the griddles, the roasters and the steamers. After a while the owners realize that they don’t fit into their lives and are just clutter in their homes. So they donate them to a thrift store or sell them at a yard sale for pennies on the dollar.

This means that anyone who needs a small appliance can come along and grab one cheaply. While I might not be willing to purchase an ice cream maker for $50 no matter how much my kids beg, with a low price of $5, I’m quite willing to let them try one out for the summer. The entertainment cost alone is worth that, and we can always donate or resell it if the kids lose interest.
