Cheap Ways to Freshen Your Home for Spring

Cheap Ways to Freshen Your Home for Spring | Families.comWhile the calendar is promising spring, here it still seems like winter. I can’t wait until I am able to open the windows and let the fresh air circulate through the house for hours. It is one free way to instantly freshen up our home.

While the new catalogues that come in the mail are promising all sorts of ideas for freshening up a home and getting it ready for spring, I think I am going to stick with the free and the cheap. This way I can still have a nice fresh house, but can also save my money for other things.

Natural Air Fresheners

There are a to of natural air fresheners that can be used to freshen your home. Citrus fruit is one of them. Oranges and lemons can be cut open and left out for their wonderfully fresh smell. The peels can be run through the garbage disposal or boiled over the stove. Other natural air fresheners include vanilla and cinnamon. To remove odors instead of masking them, try vinegar.

Clean the Windows

It is amazing what a good window cleaning can do! Most of us don’t even realize that our windows are dirty until we get them sparkling clean and see the difference. Clean windows let in a lot of light and instantly brighten things up.

Make Simple Changes to the Decor

A lighter colored throw placed over the couch can brighten things up without costing you a lot of money. In fact, if you already have a light-colored blanket, fold that and use it instead for a free update to your living room or family room.

De-clutter

Remove at least four things from each room to open up the space for the spring. These can be items that you get rid of permanently by tossing, donating or selling, or just items that get put away until next fall or winter. A less cluttered space feels fresh.
