Good luck in your future endeavors! Food Storage Items Available Online - Blog Entry24 Mar 2008 08:23 PM We used to have Ward dry-pack activities (back in the days before mylar bags). It was fascinating being able to seal a #10 tin can. It's a lot easier now. One thing I learned was don't assume the foodstuffs are cheaper through the Church cannery - quite often it was cheaper to get the bulk items from Sam's Club or other similar places. Tithing and the Economy - Blog Entry19 Mar 2008 08:44 PM We've been counseled to follow a "concentric circle" approach when we have hard times: 1st ourselves (center of the circle); 2nd our family; and 3rd the Church (outer ring). I was told (and I believe it) that if you owe $100 in tithing, and are $100 short due to a bill, you should pay the $100 for tithing, and then get help (from the Family or the Church) for the $100 bill. No matter how tight things have been for me (and let me tell you, there have been some tight times!), I have *always* put tithing as a priority (and actually had to do what I mentioned above). I would hate to think how bad things could get if I *didn't* have the benefit of the blessings I get from paying tithing... - Blog Entry14 Mar 2008 06:43 PM I'm a lifelong member of the church (male, 43 years old, married 20 years) and I find this somewhat offensive. What I think you are saying is that once a mature man has been in an intimate relationship, he is unable to control his urges for 18 months to serve a mission. By extension, senior sisters do not have problems overcoming such urges (or are you saying that they don't have these urges?) I believe that if a widower were to serve a mission, the Lord would bless him with the necessary "control" to keep his pants up. I believe that 19 year old single men are a greater bundle of uncontrollable hormones than a 60+ widower. What's the Big Deal about Caffeine? - Blog Entry06 Feb 2008 07:40 PM ... but the General Handbook of the Church says that members of the church should avoid habit-forming drugs. Caffeine is a habit forming drug. |
