We have two dogs now and I know my son would be devastated if we lost one, much less both. How could I possibly expect my son to endure the trials of disaster and displacement if his heart were breaking for his dearest friends who Mommy & Daddy left behind for certain death. We wouldn't do that to our son and we certainly wouldn't dream of doing it to our dogs. We have an evacuation plan and supplies/cash laid in for just such an occasion. No, if disaster is projected, we won't be foolish enough to think we can "ride it out" or "let the government make our decisions for us". We'll leave and we'll take our WHOLE family with us. When our Thor died, we just couldn't go into the bedroom for days (Thor was always the first on the bed and his breathing at the foot of the bed was always a comfort to us.) Why Store Food? - Blog Entry27 May 2006 05:24 AM You're absolutely right - this is definitely an added security. I always make a point of stocking up when items I use often are on sale. It just makes good fiscal sense. This way, if anything should ever happen and we do have a financial (or any other) emergency, we can use our financial reserves for other pressing expenses and not have to worry about how to pay the grocery bill. Funny story though - prior to moving, I misjudged my reserves and found myself having eight grocery bags of frozen and dry goods that I couldn't possibly move with our household goods! I had to drop them off at a friend's house. She was pleasantly surprised as her cupboards were bare and she hadn't had time to do groceries that day!
