My mother-in-law has blessed my life immensely. Until her, I'd never known a good example of a Christian woman. I love her dearly. I thank God every day for my husband and the wonderful family I married into. I hope I can raise my son as well as she raised hers.

"... if there is ever a time when I feel that my husband is being exceptionally thoughtless and selfish that is the time that I need to begin doing extra little things for him." This is SO TRUE! It is the only way to break a terribly destructive cycle. If he neglects you and then you start neglecting him, it just feeds the cycle and makes things ever so much worse. What a great blog!

Whenever my husband would read to our son (before he was born), Teddy would do his own little cirque-du-soleil act. It was amazing! No surprise his first and favorite word is "Daddy"!

My son is 19 months now and we have a potty for him that is right across from our toilet. Whenever we go to the bathroom, he follows and sits on his potty. Lots of positive reinforcement comes with that so he's taken very well to it. He hasn't made a deposit yet, but he is growing more comfortable with the potty. He's just started giving us signals for when he is about to have or is working on a bowel movement, so by connecting the two, hopefully we'll get him potty trained somewhat early. (According to Huggies: "The average age for completion is 34 months for girls and 37.5 months for boys.")

My son is 3 feet tall, weighs 32 pounds and already wears size 5 diapers - Mommy can't keep changing diapers for another year and a half!

Great article - water is so important to have on hand in an emergency! I use 2-liter soda bottles (cleaned with bleach & water, rinsed and dried). I fill them about 3/4 full with filtered water, place the cap on loosely and place them upright in my deep freezer. Once the water is frozen (and there's no danger of further expansion from freezing) I tighten the tops and then stack them on the freezer floor. This way, not only will I have water available in an emergency but if I lose power, the food in the freezer will keep much longer thanks to all the bottles of ice in there.

This is a great point to bring up. We forget in the rush of our everyday lives to take care of ourselves. We "grab something" to eat from a drive-through rather than fuel our body with what it needs. We forget to respect ourselves by taking care of ourselves. Mothers do this all the time. We make sure our children eat right and are clean and healthy, but when there is a time crunch, we skip preparing a healthy meal for ourselves and grab something quick and less than healthy.

Respecting God's creation by taking the best possible care of it sounds like the best weight loss program ever!

I was wary about watching American History X given all the social issues that it dealt with, but I have to say that once I saw it, I thought it was an amazing piece of film. That was due in no small part to Norton's acting. I've been a big fan of his ever since. Definitely an amazing actor!
