08 May 2006 08:22 PM

I just bought my mother-in-law a subscription to O (The Oprah Magazine) for Mother's Day. Sure, flowers would be good, but this gift will keep coming every month for a year!

Yale Undergrads: The Best, The Brightest, The Taliban? - Blog Entry

07 May 2006 08:09 AM

I don't know about you, but volunteer work for the Taliban hardly seems like community service. Hitler was interesting too, but you wouldn't want your kids going to school with him! Ivy League schools in the US have become some bastions of fanatical liberalism that I don't find the idea of my son attending one at all appealing.

Chocolate may make your depression worse! - Blog Entry

Ah-hah! "Foods high in sugar" but semisweet and dark chocolate are not as high in sugar as the average, everyday milk chocolate. So the rebound effect is due to the sugar - not the chocolate. Don't take away my chocolate, Beth!

A Trip to the World's Most Visited Mall - Blog Entry

04 May 2006 12:53 PM

My husband is from Minnesota, so we like to take a trip to the Mall whenever we go back to visit. The last time we were there, we took our nephew (who had just turned 5) to Camp Snoopy for the day as a birthday present. He went on every ride he was tall enough to enter and had a blast! Then we took him to Hooters for lunch (we actually love the chicken there).

Come Monday, young Brady was the big man on the school bus because not only did he get to spend the whole day at Camp Snoopy, but he went to Hooters. Who knew?

The Political Process - Blog Entry

03 May 2006 02:27 PM

Too many people leave the political process to "others" and spend their time complaining about what they got because they didn't participate. Unfortunately, too many Americans are happier complaining with every breath than participating and enacting change. For instance, my father can't say the word "politician" without prefacing it with the word "dirty". So, when I got involved in the process and actually ran for office, regardless of the fact that my actions were always well-intended and honest, in my father's mind, I too was a "dirty politician". With people like that in one's corner, it really makes participation an uphill battle. We need to fight the negative, do-nothings just as much as we need to fight the dishonest people. Doing nothing and then complaining about what we get is NOT an option!

MayDay! MayDay! -- This Dad Has it Rough this Month! - Blog Entry

Here's a tip, Dad. Go to a craft store and pick up a BIG package of blank greeting cards and have your kids make their own Mother's Day and Birthday Cards. Save the money you'd spend on Hallmark and give Mom & Gramma what they really want - something from the kids' hearts.
