Top Ten Weirdest Date Mates

Edward Norton is SO underrated as an actor. He's awesome! How on earth could he waste 3 years with Courtney Love? Was it for the headlines?

Here We Go Again - Another Famous Celebrity Split

Well, after Jared Leto, I guess one would need a 4-year rebound relationship. Let's face it, JT is quite a step down from JL. ;-)

Would you Rather Have a Housekeeper, a Nanny or a Cook?

11 Jan 2007 12:49 PM

Definitely the housekeeper. I don't mind cooking but between the laundry & dishes, who has time! With a housekeeper, I could spend more time with my family and we might even be able to sit down to more meals together! Cool blog. :-)

Working over the Weekend

06 Jan 2007 10:50 AM

Great point! I too have a laptop and a wireless connection so I can work from anywhere in the house or the back yard. Last year I had a terrible time pulling myself away from work on the weekends but my New Year's resolution was to take weekends off as much as possible. So far, I'm doing OK this weekend :-)

Reflection of Our Spouses?

06 Jan 2007 07:28 AM

I think you are absolutely right! One can tout their individuality all they want but when they act like a horse's behind in front of their spouse's commander they'd better realize that their behavior just may have an effect on their spouse's career whether they like it or not!

I used to be an active duty member of the USAF so I'm a lucky spouse in that I've been a part of it and understand it. Sadly, there are many spouses out there touting their individualism and sabotaging their military members' careers.

Thank you so much for sharing this, Ed! How wonderful to know that your family is receiving moral and spiritual support from so many people. God truly must have had a hand in creating your family.

Holiday Surprises

03 Jan 2007 05:56 PM

My inlaws came out last year to spend Thanksgiving with me and my son while my husband was away at a school. I LOVED having them there.

Although, one time while my husband was in Kuwait, my family insisted that I fly out to the east coast to spend Christmas with them. They set the schedule and they bought the plane ticket. (When they've bought your ticket, it is pretty hard to say no.) I had final exams at school, had just moved into a new house and hadn't had time to unpack and had also just finished a campaign for the State Senate. It was the WORST timing ever. Christmas went the way they wanted it and nobody ever mentioned the fact that my husband wasn't there and certainly nobody ever acknowledged the fact that he might be in danger. The fact that I was worried about my husband (an explosive detector dog handler at the time) was completely lost on them. It was the worst Christmas I'd ever had.

Being Military Around the Holidays

03 Jan 2007 12:35 PM

More often than not, we've had to postpone our holidays due to deployments, TDYs and schools. My family (not military) never really understood it. Having been active duty myself, it made total sense to postpone holidays when I married a military man.

As for travel, well nobody seems to understand that at all. Everybody wants us to go to them on the holidays but they just don't understand the logistical and financial nightmare involved. You don't know if you'll have leave until about 3 days prior to the date you're scheduled to go and NOBODY can afford a plane ticket purchased three days before Christmas! Do you send your kids' Christmas presents ahead and hope that you'll get the leave? What if leave is canceled and all the children's presents have already been shipped to Florida? What do you do with the plane tickets?

Then you just might have the sort of family that tries to guilt you into taking the kids to them and leaving dad at home to work through the holidays. Yeah, Merry Christmas...NOT!

Thanks for bringing this up - I wish more people understood what it is like to be a military family!
