Woo-Hoo, Cathy!!!!!! How Important is Free Wi-Fi?23 Nov 2006 06:21 PM OK, many McDonald's have free wifi and playplaces (you know, those two story tunnel systems for kids to crawl throug). Well, that means a lot to me because I can take my laptop and my son to McDonald's and actually work while my son plays. (I usually get a bad cup of coffee for me and some apple dippers or the fruit & walnut salad for my son while I'm there.) As a mother striving to be a stay-at-home mom and still bring in a small income, it is pretty important to me. Thanks McDonald's! Preparing for a Trip to the Emergency Room23 Nov 2006 11:32 AM My son had croup several months ago. We didn't know what the problem was so we called 911 and an ambulance took me and my frantic baby to the hospital while my husband followed in our car. Neither of us thought to pack or bring anything with us, so we spent the night in the ER, me in the shirt my son had vomited on and my son wrapped in his blanket, wearing only a diaper. No toys, no bottles, no sippy cups. It was awful. After that trip, I packed a "Hospital Bag". It has extra tee shirts for me and my husband, a blanket sleeper for our son, a "bells & whistles" toy and a snuggly toy, two bottles with powdered milk, a sippy cup and snack bars for all of us. We recently had to go to the ER (for me this time) but we were ready. My husband took the hospital bag and our son and we were out the door. The hospital visit was long but we were all a lot more comfortable and amused thanks to the Hospital Bag. Babies in the News: A Toddler Was Trapped in a Vending Machine23 Nov 2006 11:21 AM OMG!!! Baby on Board - Why?23 Nov 2006 11:18 AM Another great reason for "Baby on Board" signs is to let emergency personnel know that somebody else is in there with you in case, God forbid, you should get into an accident. I think every parent gets into this debate with some older, more experienced family member. My answer was always: "He's x months old. He eats, sleeps and poops. He isn't functioning at a high enough level to be manipulative yet. When he cries, he needs me, so back off!" What If I Don't Get a Baby Shower?23 Nov 2006 11:07 AM I didn't have a shower either. oddly enough, strangers came out of the woodwork with gifts! A friend of a friend had a one-year-old and a lot of outgrown dress clothes. Another friend had a one-year-old and gave me all the onesies she had for her son. A woman down the street, whom I'd never met, gave be loads of blankets she'd received but couldn't use for her twins and also threw in a monitor. It really was remarkable and I never once missed having a shower! Holiday Stress & Your Baby23 Nov 2006 11:01 AM We live far away from both sets of grandparents, so I'm always wary when they come to visit. My parents seem to think that volume helps children understand English and my son usually gets pretty stressed with all the yelling. Visits with my parents are usually tentative at first. When my in-laws walk through the door though - OH MY! My son usually has an enthusiastic "Hi!" with hugs and kisses. I love watching him with them.
