I always make a point of stocking up when items I use often are on sale. It just makes good fiscal sense. This way, if anything should ever happen and we do have a financial (or any other) emergency, we can use our financial reserves for other pressing expenses and not have to worry about how to pay the grocery bill. Funny story though - prior to moving, I misjudged my reserves and found myself having eight grocery bags of frozen and dry goods that I couldn't possibly move with our household goods! I had to drop them off at a friend's house. She was pleasantly surprised as her cupboards were bare and she hadn't had time to do groceries that day! I finally gave up trying to constantly clean. I received a huge wicker basket with baby items in it as a shower gift. I'd often wondered what I could do with the basket. I recently found my answer. When my son goes to bed and the dogs settle down, I do a single sweep through the house with the big basket. Everything on the floor goes into the basket: baby's toys, dogs' toys, dishes, cups, utensils, books, everything! Then I make one stop at the kitchen sink, another at the bookshelf, and a final stop at the toybox. Then I can settle down and relax in a clean home for about 10 minutes before I fall asleep!
