How to Save Money at Oriental Trading

Oriental Trading is my go-to for supplies when I am planning a big birthday party, as I am doing this year. They have a ton of stuff, from decorations to crafts to goodie bag items. It is easy to find items to fit practically any theme. The spending could quickly get out of hand, unless you know the Oriental Trading money-saving secrets. My youngest, who usually gets short-changed in most things, by fortune of his birth (hand-me-downs and a much slimmer photo album) is finally getting his do with an elaborate (for us) knight-themed birthday party. He is inviting all … Continue reading

Clearance Sales at Target, Kmart, Oriental Trading, and More!

It is fairly easy to find coupons. It is not difficult to find out about well advertized sales. What isn’t so easy to locate are what I call the “hidden deals”. They are out there, but not heavily advertized. Here is a quick look at some deals and offers that are going on right now, and that you might not have heard about. Starbucks has a special deal on their oatmeal. Now through January 27, 2013, you can get either flavor of their Steel-Cut Oatmeal with Old-Fashioned oats for $2.00, (with the purchase of any beverage). Choose from “Classic” (with … Continue reading

How to Organize Your Coupons: Two Ways

Every coupon clipper needs some sort of coupon organization. Otherwise, you may miss out on using the best coupons before they expire. There are many different ways to organize your coupons, and I’ve tried a few different methods over the years. How do you organize them? The Clip and Store When I first started clipping coupons this is the method I used. I would go through each Sunday insert and clip only the coupons that my family would use. Then I would organize these coupons into a coupon holder. It was an envelope-sized bag that had paper separators to divide … Continue reading

“Blinkie” and Tear Pad Coupons – Great Double Deals!

Some of the sources of coupons that are great to use are right there in the store! Look for “blinkie” dispensers, which have coupons by the product on the shelf and have a blinking light to get your attention. Look also for tearpads. These are great sources of promotions. Blinkies are often short dated and expire within a month or so, but tearpad coupons will have varying expiration dates. I visited Publix yesterday, and without too much effort, here is a list of the coupons I picked up while I was there: Blinkies: Biz Laundry Detergent $1 Exp 3/15/10 Egg … Continue reading

Beware Smart Source Counterfeit Coupons

With the boatload of coupons that have come out in the past few weeks, it was bound to happen. The number of fraudulent coupons has increased exponentially in the last few months. Very likely the counterfeiters want to sell these to people who are desperate to save money in a country where unemployment is at 10%. But hear this – they won’t beep in register systems, and cashiers are on the lookout for them. If you use these, you could be in trouble. Don’t buy printed coupons on eBay or from any subscription service. This is different from people who … Continue reading

Buying Coupons – Can I Do That?

You’re a committed couponing deal hunter, but you can’t find coupons near you. Your newspapers don’t give you all the inserts. The regional marketing for your area leaves out some of the prime coupons from the inserts that you see listed in other areas. Your stores do not stock blinkies, or tearpads. Worse, people look at you like you are crazy when you ask them to save Sunday inserts for you. After all, who uses coupons around here anyway? Well, you do. And you save lots of money. But you need a steady supply of coupons to do it. So … Continue reading

Coupon Trains

Here on Families.com, we have an active group of coupon traders who have boarded the train to savings! Coupon trains are a great way to weed out coupons that you don’t need and replace them with coupons that you do need. The “train” is an envelope full of coupons which makes the rounds from person to person on a list. Each person is a “stop” on the train. When the envelope arrives, you take out the coupons you need, and replace them with coupons of equal or greater value for similar items that you don’t need. Trains are often organized … Continue reading

Where Do You Get All Those Coupons?

It happens a lot when I am checking out at the supermarket, or in my frequent runs to CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid. The person behind me asks how I do this, where do I get all those coupons. People new to couponing really do not know how much exists beyond the Sunday insert or a few sites for printing. The Sunday newspaper insert is the first source of available coupons. Often you can find more of these by making a regular visit to local newspaper recycling centers. If you have access to the pile or dumpster where recycled newspapers … Continue reading
