I was wondering what you thought about spanking kids. Do you believe that this is a form of subsitute parenting? Do you think that this is just an alternative for the lack of the parent knowing what to do to successfully discipline the child? Also how do you feel if you see a parent spanking their child in public? Do you step in and say that thats to much or even call the authorities?

I am a college student studying Child and Adolescent develop me and we are current discussing whether breast feeding or formula is best for your baby. Recently in the state of NC a woman was kicked out of a Denny's for breast feeding in public. I was wondering out how mothers around the world felt about this. The news stated she wasnt covered so I'm assuming she showed no shame and let it all hang out! For your mothers who are breast feeding do you think it was wrong for the managers to ask her to leave? How would you have reacted?

I am a current student taking Child and Adolescent Development in college and we were recently talking about children and vaccinations and my teacher posed a question that was very interesting and hard to answer. Many vaccinations have been recently found to cause certain disorders in children such as autism etc. My teacher posed this question and I would like to know a motherly opinon " Would you get your kid vaccinated knowing that it could possibly cause other disorders to arise or would you not vaccinate them and hope that they dont catch things such as measels, mumps etc.? Also I was wondering what you mothers thought about "chicken-pox parties", where mothers bring their children to another persons house whos child has the chicken pox? Thanks in advance.

Although I am not a mother of a child I am a college student that is taking a Child and Adolesence class and one of our assignments is to blog with people who have experiences with children of their own.

I wanted to blog on this topic because I have had personal experience with teachers wanting me to start taking ritalin while in elementry and even middle school. From my experience I found that I didnt have an attention problem I just found it hard to find things in school that actually interest me. I feel if a child isnt engaged in the discussions taking place in class it is harder for them to care about whats going on. My mom had her fair share of experiences with me and homework, she says sometimes I would say I didnt even know my own name just so I could try to avoid homework, and my teachers had an even worse time trying to get me to do my classwork. My hyperactive tendencies didnt subside until I entered high school where I was actually able to pick some classes of my choice. And now that I'm in college I am taking all classes that I am truly interested in I have harnessed my knowledge and my grades are way better then my mom could've ever expected. I believe that some kids do have more energy then others but if teachers would try to think outside the box with their teaching then it would keep a lot of the "troubled" kids out of trouble and help them actually enjoy school.
