What's Your Ring Style - Traditional, Contemporary, or Unconventional? - Blog Entry

29 Dec 2008 01:47 PM

This is a great question, especially for someone looking for a ring for their wife. I figured it would be best to compare what she already wears to different engagement rings I found during my search. I obviously wanted to find a ring she loved and fit her style, but my main concern was finding a quality piece of jewelry that would last forever-something she could be very proud of. When I think traditional, I think yellow gold, which is something I know my girlfriend does not wear. I think she would love an antique. Much to my surprise, I found quite a few antique rings at a reasonable price, I was expecting antique rings to cost a leg and an arm, especially because many are platinum.

Although, at first I never thought I could afford it, I am so happy the ring I found is a platinum setting. I purchased a 40 year old ring in original condition, no real scratches and the metal's color is beautiful. I read platinum is more pure and durable, while it holds stones more secure than other metals. I am very, very happy with my choice.

http://www.novelldesignstudio.com/choosing_your_metal/index.php is a fantastic comparison chart on metals.

Whether a diamond, fake diamond, sapphire, or ruby, platinum seems to be the metal of choice (Hall & Partners says 79% or women feel the qualities in platinum best reflect their own style and taste). Hopefully my soon-to-be-wife will get what she wants, and I feel good about my investment.

Happy Shopping! Great time to find mark downs.

The Search for the Perfect Engagement Ring - Blog Entry

27 Dec 2008 01:31 PM

Great story, it is nice to hear how much you loved what your husband chose, especially for someone about to propose. As someone who has been in search of the perfect engagement ring for months, and a recent buyer, I agree, there are many things to consider when choosing a diamond. However, don't underestimate the importance of choosing the right metal for your setting, as this is what will secure the valuable diamond you purchase.

My initial thought was white gold, but after doing my research, platinum's lasting qualities simply outweigh other metals. It is more durable, won't tarnish, is stronger, and holds stones more securely than other metals. Not to mention, 81% of women prefer platinum. The following website was a life saver, as I really was discouraged by the "salesperson" experience, http://www.engagementguide.com . This source has great detail on all aspects of the engagement/ring process, including a comparison for metals, settings, diamonds, etc... and a fantastic list of retailers both in-store and online. I purchased online, and for those of you who also dislike dealing with salespeople and those also looking for a competitive price, online is a great option. Just make sure and do your homework, just as you would with any purchase.

There are some really amazing deals to be had this season! I found a gorgeous (hopefully she will agree), princess cut diamond ring set in platinum. It looks antique and looks very delicate, as my girlfriend is extremely feminine. I am so happy I decided to go with platinum being the band is so thin, I feel confident, as it felt heavier and sturdier compared to any other metal I looked at.

Good Luck, I know this can seem like a daunting task!
