There is a plugin called Gaim-Encryption (http://gaim-encryption.sf.net) which allows conversations to be encrypted so that if someone tries to capture the conversation, they only see giberish. This is a huge battle and ultimately is very bad for consumers. Someone will ultimately lose, which will be better for the industry, but the longer the battle rages, the more movies will be produced, and ultimately the more people will be upset when one goes bankrupt. Compare this scenario to Beta video tapes vs. VHS. Although Beta was a better technology, there were too many people already using VHS so it ultimately won, which allowed the industry to standardize on just one format.
