The Great Stroller Debate--Preschool Edition - Blog Entry

11 Nov 2008 09:33 AM

Wow, some people just have all the answers, don't they? I think people should use or not use strollers as they see.

Way back when I only had one child, I used to take her stroller to the mall with me all the way up until she was 5 just because I could push my shopping bags around in it. Then, if she got tired, she could hop in too! Or, if she started acting silly, crawling around under the clothing racks or hiding in the fitting rooms, into the stroller she went.

Then when the twins were toddlers, if one of them wanted out to walk for a few minutes, my (then) 6 year old son thought it was fun to hop in the stroller and get a ride while his sister stretched her legs.

I retired my twins double stroller when they were about 3 and a half. But only because it was big and bulky and heavy with 2 good sized preschoolers inside, so it was just easier for me to wrangle one and my husband to wrangle the other.

Yum! I will have to try these! I have a great recipe for Asian beef and broccoli, it is a big favorite around here, and SO much more affordable-- not to mention healthier-- when you make it at home.

Kids and Movies: How Young is Too Young? - Blog Entry

My husband and I have always, always taken unruly children out of a theater. We take turns. I took the twins out of the theater during Polar Express, because they would not settle down and watch. I walked around the mall with them while my husband sat with the other two in the theater. We didn't take them back for a while, but then we took them to a few Pixar or Dreamworks type things and they behaved beautifully.

My kids LOVE Shrek, especially the twins, so when Shrek II was in theaters, and they had been doing well at the movies we decided it would be a great outing. The twins were horrible! I was shocked that they wouldn't sit still and watch. My husband took them to a park and I called him to pick the rest of us up when it was over.

I think it shows pretty bad manners to sit in a crowded theater with a child jumping around and causing a ruckus. If the ticket price is the concern, most theaters will give you a refund if you leave before the halfway point of the film.

Election Day Coverage-Who Will You Be Watching? - Blog Entry

I like to listen to the local coverage on the radio, while I have one of the major networks on but muted. That way find out about our local elections but if there is a big development I wont miss out on it on the major network. Most likely we will keep an eye on FOX.

I have made something like this before, but I have never tried adding vinegar to it. Sounds interesting, do you use white or red wine vinegar?

Something for Parents of LEGO Lovers to Think About - Blog Entry

28 Oct 2008 07:54 PM

Legos have long been a favorite in my household, and we too go for the big buckets rather than the kits that build only one specific thing.

I have heard this argument before, about the legos perpetuating outdated and stereotypical gender roles. I had a professor go off on a lego rant in one of my univerity classes a few years ago. I argued with her a little bit, but in the end she claimed that she was right and that Lego is a sexist company because legos only come in bold, primary colors that are marketed for boys. If they were marketing for girls, the legos would be pink and purple.

Of course, that is a gender stereotype in itself, but who wants to argue with the professor?

A Mother's View from the Pool: Why are you Wearing Crocs in the Water? - Blog Entry

Good points, kk1! When my daughter was 2 years old she fell off of a slide and ended up getting 4 staples put in her head due to bigger kids climbing up the slide instead of going up the ladder. They just knocked her right off!

I just heard on the news that the police think the nephew's body has been found in an SUV. They still have to get a positive ID on the body but they think it is him. Such a tragedy. I hope Jennifer has good people around her. She is going to need a lot of support.

Halloween Costumes for Cats - Blog Entry

15 Oct 2008 09:28 PM

My stepdad bought a reindeer costume for my mom's cat and puts it on him every Christmas. It has a part that goes on his head with a jingle bell that hangs down in front of his face. Mr. Jones (the cat) does NOT like it. He bats at that jingle bell and growls --yes, he growls--at it while my stepdad takes video. He thinks it is real funny. Then my mom gets mad and takes the stupid thing off his head and babys him and gives him a treat.

I am going to go ahead and post this, even though it makes us sound slightly dysfunctional, LOL. Just know that my stepdad is a good guy, he just has a questionable sense of humor!
