Unschooling, Homeschooling, Classroom: Choose the Method that Meets the Needs of the Child - Blog Entry

23 Jun 2008 09:59 AM

*Yeah, my son would play gameboy all day if that were an option, ;)

The only family I know of where unschooling has been successful is a family whose home has no televisions or video games whatsoever. Those kids are amazing, one is at Berkely, one is working as a tutor in the Math center at a University--and he is only 15! But...they also have a child with purple hair, one with a tattoo on his arm and a facial piercing, and several other interesting ways of expressing their individuality that I don't agree with for teens, who are not mature enough to decide about tattoos and such, IMHO. I am all for some degree of parental authority in the home as well as in the homeschool.

Watch Out for Dirty Pagers - Blog Entry

17 Jun 2008 01:47 PM

We went to a restaurant for Father's Day where they give you a pager that goes off when your table is ready. Another family was waiting for a table in the entrance area and their baby was fussy so the dad let him play with the pager. It went right into his mouth!! The dad, who was holding the baby, just watched him gum on it and the mom was busy with the two older kids and seemed not to notice. I was about to say something but my DH gave me the 'Stay out of it' look and head shake so I didn't say anything to them but that is the kind of pager I thought your blog was going to be about from the title, LOL!

I Am Legend (2007) - Blog Entry

I LOVE creepy movies!! I thought it was great but not really all that creepy. But I admit I have a much higher creep out threshold than most other 30-something moms, LOL!

Because I Said So (2007) - Blog Entry

I saw this with my sister and my mom and it was very uncomfortable to sit through. There was nothing endearing about Mandy Moore's character sleeping with two love interests at once and Diane Keaton's character asked her daughter inappropriate questions that made me cringe! It was definately a waste of an afternoon, not to mention the cost of the tickets.

Make Your Own Sanitizing Wipes - Blog Entry

17 May 2008 10:34 AM

Would you go ahead and use the higher quality paper towels for this? Like Bounty? I used to make my own baby wipes and I always used the Bounty paper towels because they worked better for that, but I always buy the off-brand paper towels for daily use.

If anyone is interested in my baby wipes recipe, I haven't made it in a long time, but I think this is how I did it: prepare your paper towels and stack them in an empty baby wipes container (as described in blog), then you pour 3 tablespoons of Baby Magik baby body wash (or any other kind of baby body wash) into a large measuring cup and add water to make a total of 3 cups of liquid. Then you add the mixture to your paper towels and replace the lid. I don't know how much it saves you per wipe, but it definately does cost less to make your own.

Bill Cosby Strikes Again - Blog Entry

I attended one of Bill Cosby's speaking engagements a few years ago. He really is a wonderful man. He is very dedicated to the African-American community and I think the work he is doing is very important.

This Week in History - 1998 - Blog Entry

The movie The Big Hit always brings back memories for me. The afternoon of April 26th I went shopping for a washer and dryer at the Montgomery Wards at the mall then went to the theater and saw The Big Hit. I had contractions all during the film and afterward went straight to the hospital where I delivered my son at 9:46 that night. I can't hear the name of that movie without remembering that day. Funny thing is, my washer and dryer don't have the same effect on me, Ha ha!
