I remember when "Notting Hill" first came out I really wanted to love it, and didn't like it a bit. Haven't seen the other two. Students Paid to Attend Tutoring - Blog Entry08 Feb 2008 09:39 AM Here in Kansas City, MO, the public school district pays students up to $200 to attend summer school! My neices go every summer, there are 2 summer school sessions, each student is paid $100 for each session and students can attend both sessions. The students also lose $$ for each absence so the only way to get the full amount is to have 100 percent attendance. After completing the summer school session, the school district mails students a prepaid Visa card loaded with the amount they have earned for participating in the program. Our school district is not accredited and I think that the money would be better spent improving the schools or giving raises to the teachers so they will stick around more than 1 or 2 years. Also, I am all for rewarding students for improving, but I don't think they (or anyone for that matter) should be paid just for showing up. How to Buy a Crockpot - Blog Entry29 Jan 2008 11:27 AM I just put a roast in my four quart crock pot and, alas, I had no room for new potatoes and baby carrots! So I am giving up the temptation of the (cheap) split crock pot for good. Next weekend I will bite the bullet and buy the new 7 quart crock pot that I really need. I would have gone this morning, but we have a blizzard happening in Kansas City today! How to Buy a Crockpot - Blog Entry26 Jan 2008 12:53 PM I am in the market for a new 7 quart crockpot, mine went out and I am stuck only with a 4 quart which is not large enough for my usual crockpot dishes (I am feeding a family of 6). Anyway, I found a great bargain on a 7 quart at a discount place and bought it before realizing that the ceramic pot is split in half; that is, it has 2 chambers for 2 different dishes rather than just one large chamber for a roast or a chicken. Well, I returned it because it wasn't what I wanted, but I now I keep thinking about it and thinking maybe I should go back for it. I keep telling myself that I only want it because it was only about $20, and that I would probably not use it. Furthermore, I really do need one with a large chamber for chickens and stews. Do you think a split chamber crockpot would be a good investment for a large family? Sanitize Your Sponges - Blog Entry26 Jan 2008 12:19 PM Really good information, but I just have to say with a shiver: Ew, that is sooo gross! This is the reason that I only use washable dishcloths and I wash them after every use; I can't abide the thought of mold and yeast near my family's food and dishes. I don't think I could stomach putting a smelly old sponge in my microwave, lol! Even Veterans Wonder, "Can I Really Do This?" - Blog Entry21 Dec 2007 08:33 PM Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have self doubts all the time. My oldest is in 9th grade and I am so concerned that she needs to be ready for college in 3 1/2 short years. But at the same time, I know that she is better off at home not only for education, but also because some of the peer influences in High School can be very negative. Is Jamie Lynn Spears Marrying Her Baby's Daddy? - Blog Entry21 Dec 2007 08:17 PM "now that Jamie Lynn has gone public with her pregnancy her parents aren't letting her out of their sight so she can't "do anything she'll regret." " Too bad they didn't do this with Britney, before she went off the deep end. Nickelodeon's New Special: Teen Pregnancy 101 - Blog Entry21 Dec 2007 08:11 PM I hope I am doing a better job of raising my teen daughter than to need to rely on Linda Ellerbee to instruct her on how to determine if she is in love or ready for a sexual relationship! The special might serve some purpose for the children of those who are uncomfortable discussing these issues with their teens, but thankfully that doesn't include us. My daughter told me Jamie Lynn was pregnant, was not surprised by this bit of information, and reaffirmed to me (without me prodding her) that she doesn't think teens should have sex or babies either one. I am very proud of her values. No, we will not be watching. Why Most Christmas Card Pictures are not of Couples - Blog Entry16 Dec 2007 12:46 PM I have tons of pics of all the kids, especially at Christmas time, and we have some family portraits, too. But I really wish I had more photographs of my husband and me back when we were in our 20's, when we a were young and attractive couple! Ask a Homeschooling Blogger: Is Homeschooling Sexist? - Blog Entry06 Dec 2007 12:20 PM "I've been recently reading that some homeschoolers are emphasizing in their home education programs that girls are to be wives and men are to be the leaders." I would be interested to know specifically what she was reading that stated this, and exactly what it said. It sounds to me like some "spin" from an anti-homeschool group or organization. I will be looking forward to your next blog on gender biased education in homeschooled girls. |
