A Dangerous Pacifier Practice - Blog Entry

23 Jul 2008 01:16 PM

When my son was over a year old and still taking the pacifier I saw a segment on Donny and Marie Osmond's show where Marie demonstrated how to do this and praised how well it had worked for her own children. She just snipped the end off the binky with a pair of scissors. Then every few days snipped a little more until it was down to a nub that could not be held in the mouth unless the baby was biting into it with his teeth.

Well, I tried it and my son just wouldn't take it after it had been snipped. He spit it out and cried so I threw the damaged pacifier away and gave him a whole one.

When he reached 24 months without showing any signs of wanting to give up his binky I just packed them all up and threw them out. He fussed a lot more than normal for about a week and then he got over it. After he was off the binky for a month or so he found one in his toy box that I had missed and immediately popped it into his mouth. I thought, oh no, here we go again with the pacifiers, but he just chewed on it for a few minutes then spit it out. He had finally broken the habit for good, he just needed a little help to do it.

Skin Care Myths: Chapstick Addiction - Blog Entry

I LOVE lip balm!!! I am a total addict, the fact that it is non addictive not withstanding LOL. I used to have a Bonne Bell Lip Smackers fascination and I had every flavor. Every time I saw a new one I would buy it. My favorite was Dr. Pepper, haha. Now I use the Aquafina lip balm or soft lips but I still have at least a dozen tubes at any given time.

Yes, we must move forward with cultural acknowledgement and elimination of racism. Racism does still exist but use of racial slurs is not the correct way to acknowledge cultural diversity. No matter who is saying it, it inflames racism rather than eliminate it.

I think it is far more accurate to say that the "different worlds" within the U.S. are comprised of people of different socio-economic status rather than people of different cultures. The same problems that low income black families face also plague low income white and hispanic families and low income families of any other culture.

Neither Goldberg and Hasselbeck are low income or below poverty levels, they are working and living in the same world. So what purpose does it serve for Whoopi to utter that word on television?

Tragic Death of a Baby--Why Not Adoption Instead? - Blog Entry

If the lack of medical insurance was truly her reason, why did she not apply for medicaid? I am sure that even had she not qualified for state aid they could have pointed her in the direction of a low cost clinic or even the Health Dept in her state. That is a pretty flimsy excuse not to seek medical treatment in my opinion.

I find the "we don't live in the same world" comment very irritating. Perhaps Whoopi and Elizabeth's grandmothers did not live in the "same world," but what does that have to do with the present? Progress is made when we look to the future--not the past-- and frankly, no further good can come of focusing on the grievances of people who have lived their lives and left this world. Isn't the best way to honor those who suffered for Civil Rights to make the most of the opportunities available due to their hard work and suffering? Whoopi has clearly done that in her own life, yet she continues to perpetuate ill will between the races by using a derogatory term like that on the air. It is simply shameful.

Was She Ever Really Pregnant? - Blog Entry

I don't look like Nicole Kidman either, but I was rather slender (size 4) and with my first and second, I gained less than 25 lbs and was back in pre-pregnancy wardrobe upon leaving the hospital. I think for some women this is perfectly normal, especially those who are in the public eye and make the effort to look their best because they know all eyes are on them.

The title of your blog brought me up short, as well, LOL. I think I just had a Jonathan Swift flashback!

I think she has already prepared a place between the privacy fence and the tool shed. There is some foliage that hangs over from the neighbors yard providing a nice little secluded spot. I would like to keep her and try to figure out how to find good homes for her kittens (even though I don't know anyone around here to give them to) but I really don't think I could talk my husband into it.

Hey New Yorker: A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words - Blog Entry

I think that cover is in such disgustingly poor taste. I have no intention of voting for Obama, I simply do not agree with anything he stands for...but with this cover The New Yorker seems to be telling me, and people like me, "You won't vote for Obama because this is what you really think of him." Not true at all. It is a clear tactic to put conservatives on the defensive and it isn't going to work, I am not the one that should defend my statements, The New Yorker, on the other hand has some explaining to do! In my opinion, it is The New Yorker, and other left leaning publications that are perpetuating stereotypes against Obama and not conservatives like myself.

Yikes! I can totally sympathise. We just moved into a new neighborhood and we have a mysterious pregnant calico that likes to lounge on our patio. I am very concerned that she might be making plans to birth her litter on my property and I don't know what I would do then! I have asked around and no one seems to know who she belongs to, yet she seems well cared for. I really don't know what I should do about her, and she is very friendly too, and my kids love her but we can't keep her if she does turn out to be a stray.
