The Surprisingly Strict Disney Dress Code

Is Pluto properly groomed? Just about everyone has a dress code at work. Some are more lax than others, but few work places don’t have any requirements for dress or grooming. One of the few establishments I’d think of that wouldn’t have much in the way of a dress code would be an amusement park. I picture teenagers in t-shirts, baseball caps, and torn jeans when I think of amusement park employees. But the Disney Parks, as they are for many things, are an exception. The Disney Parks follow a dress code that originated in the 1950s. Its rules are … Continue reading

Disney World to Pay Backed Wages

Is it as fun for them as it is for us? At first thought it might seem that for us Disney addicts working at one of the Disney parks would be a dream job. We’d spend our days surrounded by the Disney magic we love. Only I’m not so sure about that. I’d worry that my behind-the-scenes ticket to a Disney park would ruin a lot of the magic for me. Now it seems like on top of that employment at Disney World might not even meet federal standards on working conditions. The Associated Press reported at the end of … Continue reading

Disney Internship Opportunities

At times it feels like the main focus here at the Disney blog is children – well, children and we adults who hold on to that little inner something that delights in fairy tale wonder. Given the nature of Disney’s target audience, it often feels that I have nothing to offer parents of teenagers and college-age kids. So today’s blog is for you. Do you have a child in college (or are you a college student) who loves Disney, or who considers a career in Disney a dream opportunity? Then you should think about applying for a Disney internship. Anyone … Continue reading

Disney Interview Tips

If you are applying through a college program, chances are your interview will be a telephone interview. If you go through the casting office, your interview will likely be face-to-face there at the Casting Office. Telephone Interview Tips Limit any background noise as much as possible. College dormitories are not known for their peace and quiet but be sure to turn off any television or music you may have playing in your room and close the door so that hallway noise doesn’t seep in. If you have a roommate, be sure that they know you are on an important phone … Continue reading

An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000)

In “An Extremely Goofy Movie,” we see that Goofy’s son Max has graduated from high school and is now going off to college with his two friends, PJ and Bobby. He’s really excited to be getting out on his own, and, I’m sorry to say, despite everything he learned in “A Goofy Movie,” he’s still ashamed of his father and wants to be anywhere but with him. He takes off early one morning without looking at the nice breakfast Goofy prepared for him and without even saying a proper goodbye. Goofy’s heart is broken as he wanders through the house, … Continue reading

Heroes Work Here

At a Walt Disney Company shareholder’s meeting in Kansas City last Tuesday, Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger announced a new plan for the company to hire 1,000 armed forces veterans over the next three years. “As a new generation of America’s military men and women transition into civilian life, we are increasing our commitment and support for these modern day heroes,” Iger said in a press release on the Disney corporate website. ”It’s a measure of our respect for how much they have sacrificed on our behalf, and our sincere gratitude for their extraordinary contributions to this country.” Because this … Continue reading

Gay Marriage Legal Again in California

In what some will see as victory and others defeat, the California Supreme Court made history today when it overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage. What Does It All Mean? First and foremost, there are a lot of gay couples rejoicing right about now. This was an enormous decision which ultimately resulted in triumph for the gay rights movement. Second of all, and perhaps most importantly and which will cause those opposed to gay marriage the most distress, is that the ruling sets a precedent. Domestic Partners vs. Married: Rights California already allowed same-sex couples domestic partner rights, as … Continue reading

Is An Internship Really Worth It?

Internships, are generally unpaid positions (or they pay very little) doing necessary but menial work in a particular field. Generally they are offered college students. Despite their lack of pay, this is one invaluable experience that you shouldn’t pass up if given the opportunity. An Incredible Learning Opportunity Often internships give participants the chance to learn some incredibly interesting material. While it’s true that you may spend some time doing menial tasks, you’ll also spend some time learning the ins and outs of an office in your chosen career. Generally, people at an internship are open to questions and so … Continue reading
