Why not repair the ripped backpack? I retrieved a discarded backpack that had ripped between the zipper and the seam sewed it back together. I cut a good piece of fabric from otherwise raggedy pants, placed it behind the rip and sewed it up using a zig-zag stitch. Now its good as new.
