The big game is less than four days away. On Sunday, millions of families will be gathering around their televisions to watch the Baltimore Ravens take on the San Francisco 49ers… or at least to watch the uber-hyped Super Bowl commercials.
It would be great if the entire family thought watching a 4-hour game was the epitome of fun. However, if you have young kids, they may want a bit more to do than just sit on the couch and cheer on men wearing tight pants.
If you are looking for super fun ideas that will score big with little kids this Sunday, consider the following:
DIY Pom Poms: Give kids a real reason to cheer by having them make their own pom poms. Simply cut strips of colorful streamers or ribbon and tape them to the end of an empty roll of toilet paper or paper towels. Children can mix and match the colors of the crepe paper streamers, and then decorate the cardboard handles so they coordinate with the colors of their favorite team.
Commercial Bingo: For kids who don’t want to stray far from their parents, but aren’t interested in every detail of the game, give them a commercial bingo card. You can make your own by substituting pictures of cars, soda, pizza, insurance company logos and chips for traditional bingo numbers. Have the kids watch the Super Bowl TV ads and cross off the images that coincide with the products featured on the commercials.
Homemade Board Games: Don’t spend a fortune purchasing new board games to keep the kiddos busy on Super Bowl Sunday; rather, download games from the Internet. Online board games are free to print and include rules and graphics you need to play. You can piece together the rest of the game with common household supplies and some cardboard.
