My First Venture Into the Ghetto - Blog Entry

09 Jan 2007 09:33 PM

I have grown to really love the disadvantaged people among us and the places that they have to live. When the boys are older, I will take them to see where they came from. When the Lord sends you in to these places, He is there to protect you.

No one else could have protected them, Art. It had to be God.

Are Homeschooled Children Over Sheltered? - Blog Entry

09 Jan 2007 01:26 PM

Andrea, I helped my wife who was a children's pastor for many years and we observed many children who were homeschooled and the answer to your question is a definite yes and no. It depends on the parent. Some really shelter and others are more well rounded. I have seen it backfire where a child is really sheltered and then goes wild the first time they go away. I do know that you can not shelter them forever.

Searching for the Real Me - Blog Entry

MJ, I know that I am bragging but I am getting prouder by the minute. I have now lost 80 pounds, I have about 15 to go. I got scared when I was about to turn 60 and had small children. It is hard for a month or so and then you settle in and its gets easier. I promise. It is possible to do. Good luck.

The Dirty Word - Budget - Blog Entry

Michelle, Nancy and I have been debt free since we retired. It is amazing how much less a family can live on if they do not owe anyone money. We do with out some things, but nothing that we really need. There is great wisdom in having a budget and living with it.

When I was growing up, we lived across the street from the high school. My dad and I used to go to football games there. One time, the other team's marching band had one member who was in a wheel chair. His father pushed him when they did their halftime show, the dad kept in perfect step with the other band members. It must have been 50 years ago, but I still remember.
