And it is a terrible thing to take a child away from a parent. But I think that the courts ought to consider the rights of the child. The rights of the innocent child, who didn't pick the circumstances of their birth, should be more important than the rights of the parent who is breaking the law, both the laws of the land and the laws of nature. The animals in the woods behind my home take care of their young. Parents who don't want to care for their young should have minimal rights. In Texas, to get the subsidy, it has to be a "special needs" situation, otherwise, you do not get the subsidy. When we were going through the process and had to meet with her, she often showed up in really bad shape, saying wierd things to the kids. I had learned in college that I cannot handle liquor so I quit drinking completely. I was harrassed for being the only one not drinking at several of these parties and I am convinced that my stance hurt my career. In those days, the "good ole boy" network was alive and well. I know of two people who got so out of line at holiday office parties that they were fired.
