The Cost of Breastfeeding Intervention vs. Formula Feeding - Blog Entry

20 Sep 2008 10:57 AM

You make a good point...breastfeeding, although free in itself, is not really free if your baby has trouble latching on and you need to use consultants, pumps, etc. I admire your perserverance in getting your 3rd to nurse. I nursed all 3 of mine and was lucky to have kids that latched on pretty quickly and easily. There's a great debate on breastfeeding and formula feeding at www.opposingviews.com/questions/will-formula-feeding-harm-my-baby It's a really great discussion about nursing and formula feeding with experts from both sides weighing in.

California Considers Banning Spanking - Blog Entry

I understand the concern to protect children, but I don't think this is the right way to go about it. Personally, I don't think a quick swat on the behind is child abuse. In general, we spank our children very rarely and I think other discipline techniques are more effective usually, but I don't think this is something that should be governed by law. Child abuse should be illegal; the occasional spank should not. How would this be enforced? What becomes illegal next...timeouts? There is a really great debate about spanking at www.opposingviews.com/questions/is-spanking-an-acceptable-form-of-discipline Experts from both sides weigh in and make some good points...excellent read on the topic! Thanks for your post.

Father Blocks Circumcison - Blog Entry

I definitely think the circumcision should be done if it will stop the consistent infections. If that's the case, I would consider it a medically necessary procedure. In general, I don't think circumcision is medically necessary, but if it can stop and/or prevent infections than it would be to this boy's advantage to have it done. We circumcised both our sons, but I can see why parents may be reluctant to do it. There is a great debate about circumcision going on right now at www.opposingviews.com/questions/should-boys-be-circumcised Experts from both sides debate the issue and make some interesting points on the topic.

Hannah Polling, Vaccines, and Autism - Blog Entry

Thanks for the article. I chose to vaccinate all 3 of my children. I do feel, however, there is a likelihood that autism may be triggered by the vaccines. It seems, though, there may be an underlying genetic component that may be set off by vaccines. Obviously, more research needs to be done...it is a disease that is affecting so many families and increasing at an alarming rate. There is a really great debate about autism and vaccines at www.opposingviews.com/questions/are-autism-and-vaccines-linked. Experts from both sides debate the issue, and there's a guy named Kevin Leitch who is really stirring things up by taking on the groups who believe autism and vaccines are linked.

The Circumcision Debate - Blog Entry

Thanks for providing such a fair and balanced look at the circumcision debate. Most of the articles, posts, etc. I've read on this topic are pretty biased. I have 2 sons who were both circumcised and we are happy with our decision and have had no problems. However, I know several friends and family members who are choosing now to not circumcise their sons. I can understand why one may opt not too, but I do think it is a decision that is very personal and individual. There's actually a really fair and informed debate about circumcision at www.opposingviews.com/questions/should-boys-be-circumcised. Experts from both sides debate the relevant points and there is some excellent information on there. Thanks for the article!
