Beware of Free Group Scams

While it is good to be frugal, more and more con artists are popping up to take advantage of people who are frugal. There is a lot of focus on frugality right now, and the bad guys know this. Be on the look out for free group scams, especially if you are new to the frugal living lifestyle. Free group scams are modeled after legitimate free, trading and sharing groups. The good groups let you give away items you don’t want for free, get items you need for free, and trade your existing non-wanted items for other items that you … Continue reading

Let everyone that you know that you are interested in yard sales and free events. Very often, someone you know knows of an event coming up that is being hosted. Who hosts these types of events? Does Your Preschooler Have a Hippy Name?

Forty years ago this weekend a music and art fair took place on a 600-acre dairy farm in the rural town of Bethel, New York. Nearly a half million long-haired, peace-loving, tie dyed-wearing, bong-toting hippies showed up to watch 32 acts perform in what is widely regarded as one of the greatest moments in music history. Woodstock, which was billed as “An Aquarian Exposition,” took place from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Four decades later many of the concert’s memorable attendees have cut their hair, switched from grass to clove cigarettes and procreated. Peace and love, baby. Not surprisingly, … Continue reading

Collect Names and Prospects Using a Drawing

When it comes to finding a relatively inexpensive way to collect names and grow a database of prospects and interested individuals for your home business, there are few activities that can be as successful as a drawing. If you have public opportunities to meet and attract new people, holding a drawing for a free product or service can be a fabulous way to gather names of interested people. You can then follow up with these individuals in an attempt to cultivate them into customers. Even for those of you who do direct sales or visit with prospects on an individual … Continue reading

Finding Single Parent Family-Friendly Service Providers

We single parents get enough judgment from folks for free, we shouldn’t have to pay for it too. At least, that is my theory on why it is important to find service providers—child care providers, doctors, nurses, housekeepers, etc. that are friendly and supportive of our single parent status. I am of the opinion that we don’t need to pay for all that extra judgment that isn’t helpful for us anyway! I admit, it can be hard to “interview” prospective service providers in order to find out how they feel about single parent families. But, if you are hiring someone … Continue reading

Why Banning Formula Isn’t That Awful

I mentioned earlier that New York City has placed a ban on free formula samples in all of its public hospitals. The announcement came this week during World Breastfeeding Week and as usual, the debate is raging. Many moms are saying that a ban on formula would’ve excluded them because they either couldn’t or didn’t want to breastfeed. Other moms are talking about how awful they felt when they were made to feel like an awful mother because they didn’t want to (or couldn’t breastfeed). So is banning formula a horrible thing to do, leaving out thousands of moms that … Continue reading

If It Seems Too Good Too Be True…It Probably Is

For some reason, individuals who are passionately interested in running a home business seem to be prime targets for home business scams. You may have even been the victim of one of these get-rich-quick, or make-thousands-working-from-home scams in your quest to become independent and start your own home business. You can protect yourself by being on the lookout and investigating anything you are considering getting involved with. The old saying, “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is” is still very good advice. All those spam e-mails that show up in your e-mail inbox or advertisements you … Continue reading

Do You Still Dress and Coiffe Even Though You Work From Home?

I confess, some days, I work in my pajamas (or robe or sweats or wrapped in a blanket)—but it’s not very often. Mostly, I just feel better and more productive if I treat my work-at-home days just like my work-away-from-home days. Now, even if I shower and dress, I don’t always do my hair if I’m not planning on leaving the house—but, I’d love to hear from our other work-at-homers and home business owners about how you all approach daily hygiene when you don’t have to be out and about? I know that not all work from home businesses take … Continue reading
