Hugs and Mental Health - Blog Entry

24 Oct 2008 05:20 PM

I have often wondered how not getting enough daily hugs effects the emotional well-being and self-esteem of children.

As a child growing up in the 50's I know my brother and I were not hugged. I also know that my self-esteem was low; and not just because I did not receive hugs.

Now, as a single, senior adult the only hugs I get are from one of my cats. He loves and thrives on climbing up on my chest and hanging over my shoulder - this hug is satisfing to both of us. This will never replace the bear hug of another adult but it does help.

Anyone who lives alone needs to have a dog or cat to have around for a little company; that's what I think anyway. And, if you know someone who lives in a nursing home or assisted living bringing them your pet now and again to hold and pet is great therapy for them.

Halloween, the Economy and Your Family - Blog Entry

Hello, Your information on about how much money people are going to spend on Halloween amazed me, but did not particularly surprise me.

Yesterday when I was driving around doing my part time marketing job, I saw a small, very old house decorated to the hilt.

It all began a couple of weeks ago as they were putting up cute scarecrows all around thier yard. I thougt it looked very nice. But, this week they have added these great big blow up ghosts that have to cost quite a bit and lots of other decorations. There is now so many decorations in their yard you can barely see their home!

I wish I had extra money to spend on Halloween decorations but I'd rather buy food and pay my bills. Although people spend their money on what they think is important I, as a Christian, do not believe that Halloween is a holiday we should be "celebrating".

I love fall and pumpkin decorating as much as the next person (in fact I am even going to put some pumpkin decorating ideas on the activity page of my web site where I sell children's toys) but I believe we, as Christians need to focus more on the Fall Harvest theme instead of "celebrating" Halloween itself.

Limited Mess Pumpkin Decorating Ideas for Kids - Blog Entry

Hello, I loved your pumpkin craft ideas. Using simple craft supplies that every family has around the home makes for fun and inexpensive craft time. I especially liked your Ribbon decorating idea.

This is my first time on a blog; I was searching for toddler crafts for Halloween to put on my web site. I sell children's toys and have an Activities page and I am always looking for new ideas to post for my customers.

Would I be allowed to copy your craft ideas onto my website or would I need to make a link to somewhere? You my view my website activity page at http://www.blocksand3dpuzzles.com/page/834262. Thank you, Garolyn B.
