When I was in high school, I was dealing with some really traumatic issues in my personal life and it felt like my world was spinning out of control. I started to show signs of this in my academics, attendance and attitude. I had a few teachers question me about it, but I didn't want to discuss it infront of other students. Finally a teacher (female), invited me for lunch in her classroom (no one else there) and we talked over lunch. I had no one else to talk to and as a child I didn't have any resources to find someone to talk to. She was really able to change the course of my life. It's sad that children could be deprived this. You should be able to trust teachers, and while I know the world is not always like that, it is sad that so many children could be deprived because of that lack of trust. High Schools: Back to One Path? - Blog Entry02 Nov 2009 02:45 AM It sounds great and I agree with many points made here. However, I wonder what happens to the people who do not fair well with academics? People who are of lower intelligence or what not. What would be the long term effects? More people in poverty with less options? You need to have options for all kinds of people. |
