Frugal Party Food

07 Jan 2009 09:35 AM

A dish I like to serve when I'm having a lot of guests is baked ziti. It's easy to make and goes a long way. Serve it with meatballs and sald and home made garlic bread! I also bake it right in a large disposable tin to make the cleanup easier and faster. I like baking the cakes myself too and the kids love it when you get creative with the decorating!

Frugal Cold Treatments

One way we keep the cold virus away from other members of the house is to put a roll of paper towels in the bathroom and let them us use it instead of the hand towel. Another way is to keep everybody's toothbrush separated, not in a holder. I also give each kid their own tube of toothpaste to keep in their room. Also, if someone in the family has strep throat, the toothbrush should be thrown away after the first couple of days on the antibiotic. Our pediatrician said that we can give the strep back to ourselves because it stays on the toothbrush!! This seems to work for us so I thought I'd pass it along! Stay well!!

The Eight Biggest Laundry Mistakes

A friend of mine had a service call on her washing machine because it wasn't working right. The repairman found a foreign piece of wire in the machine to be the problem and held it up to show her. He asked her if she was missing anything... and it turned out to be the underwire from one of her bras!

The Temptation of Great After Holiday Deals 2

I agree with you both...and always make sure my annual Christmas card says Merry Christmas and not Happy Holidays! Sadly, people forget what it's all about!

Frugal Freezer Cooking: "Hot Pockets"

02 Jan 2009 07:12 AM

Hi Mary Ann, I just made 2 of them for New Year's Eve with my 8 year old. I used 1 pizza dough each (Price Chopper brand). One loaf had the following layers: salami, feta cheese, and part skim mozzarella cheese. The other had ham and part skim mozzarella cheese. My kids like the hot pockets from the store too, especially the new one "Garlic Chicken White Pizza". mmmm Happy New Year!

I look forward to your filling ideas. I do this with pizza dough too but instead of folding it over, I roll out the dough into a long rectangle, spread the filling on it and roll it into a log. This makes it easy to slice into servings.

Does Your Child Have a Cellphone?

07 Nov 2008 11:17 AM

We made the decision that once the kids entered middle school they would get a cell phone. This is themtime where there are more after school activities and we need to know that they can contact us and vice versa if needed. It's working out really well, especially when plans for teenagers seem to change by the minute! With a cell phone we are better able to keep in touch with what our kids are doing.
