Greyhound Helping Cash-Strapped Travelers

Given the sky-high price of gas these days, I would just as soon leave the driving to anyone else.

If filling up your vehicle is emptying your wallet, you may be thinking twice about hitting the highway on a spring break getaway.  Fortunately, Greyhound is lending a helping hand to cash-strapped travelers.

North America’s largest bus company just announced a bonus to its companion fares.  Now, three people can ride at half price with the purchase of one full-fare adult ticket, making group travel cheaper than ever.

“Whether you’re a family gathering for a reunion, a baseball fan watching your team prepare for opening day or a student supporting the Sweet 16 on the road to the Final Four, your entire family, cheer squad and student body can travel for less,” according to Dave Leach, president and CEO of Greyhound.

You can take advantage of the reduced rate for one-way and round-trip tickets on Greyhound and Greyhound Express on both walk-up and online advance purchases.  For additional discounts, visit Greyhound’s website which features special sales throughout the year.

Also, keep in mind that Greyhound doesn’t run its business the same way as commercial airlines by offering big savings on last-minute fares.  The popular bus company is a proponent of advance purchases.  If you buy your ticket at least 21 days before your departure date you can save up to 25% off regular rates.  Likewise, if you purchase a ticket between 7 and 14 days in advance you can save between 10% and 25% on your fare.

Finally, if you are looking for an alternative to Greyhound, consider Megabus.  The discount bus company offers daily bus service between Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Detroit.  While its service area is smaller than Greyhound, its prices are drastically discounted.  In addition, Megabus runs a slew of promotions on its social media platforms which reduce rates even further.
