Scary Movie Night - Blog Entry

What a great idea for movie buffs. I don't like horror movies for myself but do understand that many people do. Aussies don't seem to go in for much grandure around halloween, the people I know don't anyway. Maybe I'm now in the too old category!! When travelling through UK and Europe on several occasions at that time of year I have noticed how people and communities in general really celebrated halloween, big time. I do remember so many things to be thankful for on the 1st November and the many loved ones who have passed on and celebrate their memory on 2nd of November but my grandchildren, from the big ones to the littlies seem to have lots of fun for halloween though. I remember in Central America at that time of year there was lots of halloween programs on the cable TV but the people there seemed to be full on for both All Saints and All Souls days rather than halloween.

I watched something about this on the TV in the past 2 days or so - I think it is an exciting future we await in relation to this concept. Sounds good anyway.

Tips to Help Your Child re-Handle a Violent Conflict - Blog Entry

That would be great Megan - meanwhile, to whoever reads this ... Try communicatiing with family, friends and strangers, by hand gestures (if you do not yet know signing - who ever you sign to probably will not know either!), and by facial expressions and lip movements, without usung your voice. Then, here comes the tricky bit, answer the phone the same way - you'll soon get the idea of what it is like!!!! One day in the butchers I asked for 2 kilograms of chicken legs then went on looking for what other bits I needed. When I got home to cook for my family, I unwraped 2 chicken legs! When my head and neck spasm backwards I realize how odd it is when suddenly everything looks funny - I can only see through the reading part of my bifocals! Ho-hum, I'm just a cranky old cow sometimes!!

My Inner City Story: Inner City Conditions - Blog Entry

It seems to me that the school curriculum remains academic in focus whilst the most basic of every day needs in life for the majority of students in this area you are referring to remain unfulfilled. I don't see how parents can manage their family responsibilities, nor do I understand how students can learn positive values from both example from home and involvement at school, when there is so much overcrowding of available space and insufficient resources within the educational system - for parents and young people alike. This all sounds similar to the horrors I have experienced in third world countries. Come to Australia to live Valorie, at least there is more space!! I take my hat off to you people, teaching as you do in such conditions. Your own children are greatly blessed indeed. Sue B.

Good points, Megan. However, I frequently feel so frustrated about being unable to speak that I just want to punch some other poor person fair, square on their nose! I do not like violence, physical or verbal, but at the same time I am maybe not a good grandmother type role model because of my thoughts! When in a social situation, so many people are either 1), afriad to talk to me because they can not understand my responses or 2), seem to think I am stupid and would not have an opinion on whatever it is they are discussing anyway. Passive anger is still aggression on my part!!! I am very pleased that others (especially young people) are unable to read my thoughts.

Be your own best friend! - Blog Entry

Great blog, Beth. The old saying "I am my own worst enemy" or "he/she is their own worst enemy" is certainly a negative view in comparison to "be your own best friend." I love it!
