Mail-in-rebates – Keeping Organized

Following is my method in organizing my rebates and forms. In my filing cabinet, I have a special file just for my rebate forms. When I get a new rebate form, I make out an envelope for that rebate, as if I am ready to mail it, except do not put a stamp on it. In the place where you place the stamp, write the date when the product needs to be purchased. I draw a line under that date and then write the date the rebate needs to be postmarked. I store all these envelopes in my rebate file. … Continue reading

Affordable Care Act Benefits that Began in 2012

Without a doubt, the most talked about, most controversial, biggest health insurance law is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. It is often referred to as the Affordable Care Act. Some people call it Obamacare. 2012 was a big year for the ACA. Here’s a quick review of some of the highlights. On June 28, 2012, the United States Supreme Court revealed its decision about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Justices decided 5 to 4 that the Affordable Care Act would stand and would continue. In other words, it was declared to be constitutional. It was … Continue reading

“Blinkie” and Tear Pad Coupons – Great Double Deals!

Some of the sources of coupons that are great to use are right there in the store! Look for “blinkie” dispensers, which have coupons by the product on the shelf and have a blinking light to get your attention. Look also for tearpads. These are great sources of promotions. Blinkies are often short dated and expire within a month or so, but tearpad coupons will have varying expiration dates. I visited Publix yesterday, and without too much effort, here is a list of the coupons I picked up while I was there: Blinkies: Biz Laundry Detergent $1 Exp 3/15/10 Egg … Continue reading

American Express Spring Fling

American Express is conducting a Spring Fling promotion. When you buy two American Express gift cards, they will send you a $25 Spring Fling gift card in the mail. When I first heard of this promotion, I wasn’t very impressed. It’s a great promotion, but I don’t need any gift cards right now. Then I started thinking about it. These Amex gift cards work anywhere an American Express credit card is accepted. I pay for gas and groceries with my debit card. Why couldn’t I use the gift cards instead? I would get use out of the Amex cards and … Continue reading

Reuse from A to Z! (C-En)

Whenever we can reuse something, we save money. Reusing something is better than recycling it in many cases, because the item gets a second life without the expense and energy of breaking it down and making it into something new. Plus, you can always recycle it down the road, once you have exhausted all of its reuse possibilities. We are on to the letter C, and so on down, in our efforts to turn our common trash into useful objects. C Compact disks: A quick way to use old compact discs is to paint them or decorate them and hang … Continue reading

Watch Out for Some of those “Free” Deals

We all know that sometimes free doesn’t always really mean free. It might mean free except for shipping and handling, free except for processing fees, or free with another purchase. It might also mean free if you give out your personal information. While most of us don’t mind giving out some information, sometimes these promotions get a little carried away. Obviously, you will have to give out your address if you want to receive a free sample by mail, but some of these registration forms are surveys in and of themselves. Still, a lot of people don’t mind, since they … Continue reading
