I still do not know if I will be able to share a positive story--it has been 8 years and the best any parent can do is keep the faith and hope for our children. Good luck with your journey. Insurance Company Refused to Cover than Reconsidered Too Late - Blog Entry12 Jan 2008 11:29 PM From my understanding Cigna had covered a bone-marrow transplant which led to complications with her liver. Apparently, the need for the transplant was rather rapid and I believe it was only a matter of weeks. The position of the family and their legal coucil is that the Original medical procedure was covered and led to the need for the liver and the position of the family is that the liver transplant should have been unquestioned as it was caused by the original covered medical procedure... It will be interesting to see the outcome of this case, as it has some huge implications. Auto Insurance and Students Away At College - Blog Entry02 Jan 2008 11:30 AM This may depend on your State or your insurance company. In my state dependant children away at college are covered as long as they are named and rated on the policy. In fact, not covering a dependent college student could place parents at risk for liability. We always advise parents to keep their college student covered until the time the child is doing their own taxes and earning an income.... But--as with many insurance issues you are ALWAYS advised to talk Directly to your agent or insurance company. Insurance is regulated by each state and varies from one state to another. Insurance Blog Introduction - Blog Entry18 Oct 2007 11:40 PM My advice with a college student is to put him on your policy, if he is away at school without a car most companies will rate the coverage for very limited driving. The risk of not insuring him may come one night at a college party when he finds himself the only sober driver and jumps behind a buddies wheels.... only to find out later his friends car isn't insured after an accident. And because your son is technically a dependent you would possibly be on the hook. I always advise that if you claim a child on your taxes keep them insured. In the future it will help him get better rates, and his Insurance credit score will be higher if he is insured consistantly without lapses in coverage. I have a 24 year old grad student and kept him insured on our policy until he started making some money and paying his own taxes... It was very easy to get his insurance in his name and his rates are reasonable because he has always been insured. It isn't really that HE has more "driving" expereience--it's that he has more insurance experience and mainting coverage without breaks is important to insurance companies. Potty Training Using Pull Ups - Blog Entry07 Sep 2007 10:45 AM My older children were never in a disposable diaper. I used cloth from a diaper service with two babies the costs were much less at that time. Both of my older children were Full potty-trained by the time they were 2 1/2 night and day! I made the mistake of pull-ups for my youngest--he was trained at 3 1/2 and didn't get out of the pull ups at night until 5! They stink! The Horror of Dental Insurance & Teeth - Blog Entry07 Sep 2007 10:40 AM Heather, I am so sorry to hear you have had these problems! Dental insurance is so confusing! My son missed getting his wisdom teeth out before he was 21 and because he was over 21 apparently wisdom teeth were no longer covered! The loop-holes are sometimes unbelievable. Sleep Disorder: Jeremiah's Story - Blog Entry22 Aug 2007 09:09 AM I am so glad YOU are not Jeremiah's mommy! It's a well known fact that the one TIME in a person's life when they can indulge in Jello and Frozen Sprite is after having their Tonsils removed.... Insurance Blog Introduction - Blog Entry25 Jul 2007 04:14 PM In most states there are two primary kinds of Insurance Licenses... Life/Health and Property Casualty. In order to transact Auto Insurance a person would need a property casualty license. "Most" insurance companies offering Auto Insurance also offer Home, renters, and liability coverage as the majority of companies will offer Package Policies or Discounts. In most states in order to sell Auto Insurance an agent would need to have the Whole Education in PC even if they chose to only sell auto. I have heard of some states with modified rules allowing a "license" for Customer Service people. In my state once a person has a license they can Ask the Insurance Companies to "Appoint" them as an agent. The company will then decide if they would like to Appoint you and let you know your binding authority. The first place I would start is with the Companies you are working for in Life Insurance as many have personal lines (or property casualty) units. If you have a relationship with these companies as a life writer--then they will be more open to appointing you as PC agent..... It really boils down to the "usual" resume and application sort of thing. Five-Tips to Prepare For Hurricane Season - Blog Entry09 Jul 2007 09:06 AM I completely agree! My hope is for my readers to understand when it comes to insurance ignorance may not always be bliss... I was 15 years old when I witnessed my parents lose everything during an uninsured Flood. When I was 18 I accepted my first job in Insurance, The total loss my parents suffered may have cost them only a few hundred dollars during the course of years before the flood--not being insured cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Adopt a Child--or a Whale? - Blog Entry18 May 2007 12:20 PM A few months ago we were at a pet store and Jeremiah who was adopted just before he was 2 yrs old asked what all the signs said? I told him they were about Adopting a Cat or Dog.... Jeremiah who is now 5 years old said, "Cats and Dogs are not people--and we are not cat or dogs...so how can someone adopt one?" I thought that was very interesting. Then he told the store manager that he thought it was silly to tell people they can "BE" a dog or cat and adopt one cuz he knows that moms don't ever have kittens and puppies.... ..............the feelings that should ONLY matter are those of the children who are adopted and these campaigns do upset and confuse some children.....they also minimize the TRUE meaning of being adopted and make peers think parents went shopping one day at the store and picked a child out. |
