I believe that in higher education such as college students have access to a more broad level of history and other information. For me as long as my children are at home and my responsibility to parent I would LIKE to have the right to teach them about all matters of sexuality. I only have this responsibility for a FEW years and then my role is done. I feel this way about a number of topics including religion, sexuality, and even other issues such as finances, and politics. I think that FIRST my child should have a chance to grow up in a home with consistent information is provided before being bombarded with EVERY other point of view... Give me some time to establish a foundation then they have the rest of their lives to develop their own opinions.... I think that I have done a great job as a mother with this attitude. I have two adult children age 22 and 23.... One conservative, republican, straight, Christian and One liberal, democrat, one-minded, Agnostic! There is plenty of time to form their own ideas, but during their childhood years, with my taxes paying for public education I want some of the more sensitive issues to be under my control.... Why You Won't Catch Me at a Nurse-In - Blog Entry18 Sep 2006 10:03 PM I completely agree with you. I breastfed both of my older children in the 80's when it was just returning as an accepted way.... I never had a problem in public because even in San Diego I could cover myself and baby enough to not make a scene. Besides I never really liked the idea of other people's "stuff" falling on or around my baby.... No one ever asked me to stop because I didn't ATTRACT attention about it.... And personally I don't know why it is so important to make an issue of it. It is natural but, I feel there is no reason to turn it into a movement.... ADHD? Eliminating Risks - Blog Entry12 Sep 2006 11:42 AM We have moved, about 4 miles from the river and 1 mile from a lake. Our home is on Flat Land and the property is landscaped with fire safety in mind. The downside is that OUR VIEW is Mt St Helens! Which is 28.6 miles from our new home! Saying No To a Sibling Placement - Blog Entry04 Sep 2006 10:09 PM Thank you MJ.... We came home from our vacation Saturday to find a letter in our mailbox..... A little Angel was born a few weeks ago our children's baby sister.... and of course tomorrow I have to make the call and let the state know that at the age of 43 a brand new baby sister is not possible for us. Thanks MJ for listening to me cry this one out the other night....it is so hard and as I have told you in the past, a part of me feels that I just left my baby at the hospital... I am so glad you blogged these poems and will go cry one more time......... I NEVER expected that I would be asked to make this decision so many times..... Your poems help. Anna Changing Your Child's Name - Blog Entry02 Sep 2006 04:58 PM We did not even consider for a moment changing either of our children's first names... It was NOT an option in my heart at all... Makala was 5 and her biological brother Jeremiah was only 1 when we became their parents. We did change their middle names to fit with our family "method" of naming our children... But, I didn't consider changing their first names at all... We considered their first names to be ONE GIFT from their birthmother even though I never ever would have named my daughter Makala (too common) and I just hate the fact EVERYONE has to sing "Jeremiah was a Bull Frog" to my son... Makala has always expressed the feeling of being happy to have been able to KEEP one thing her birthmother meant for her to have...her first name and as the older sister she is also happy her brother was able to keep the name she helped pick while she was still with their birthmother. For our children keeping their first names has actually been a positive thing...
