Things To Do To Survive An Earthquake - Blog Entry

One of the more funny claims issues during one of the California quakes during the 1980's were people who slept in waterbeds. People were either tossed out and hit the walls or slammed into each other in the bed. It was funny but sad!

Myth #3: It Takes Years to Adopt a Newborn in the US - Blog Entry

04 Jul 2006 10:49 AM

Adoption of a new born can take years...but, doesn't always. I have several friends who were placed with newborns within weeks and months of completing a home study.

There are many reasons that adopting a new born can take time. The biggest reason I see is that in many cases the pregnant mother selects the parents she would like to place her baby with. So it depends a lot on how well you and the agency present the information.

Our friends recently got a call for a new born 3-days after they had their home study completed, the baby was born that morning and our friends had her home by the time she was three days old....about 4 months after they started the adoption process! They should be able to finalize the adoption less then a year after they even considered adopting!

I would also contact your Insurance Agent and make sure that your personal liability insurance covers Trampolines. Many policies now exclude them and some companies will cancel insurance for policy holders who own them.

Adopting Alone - Blog Entry

Fostering or adopting a child from the state is generally not easy or fast... From my experience Doing Straight Adoption through the state takes about a year for home study approval and then anywhere from a few months to another year or more before the right placement is found.

Fostering to Adopt may mean a child is placed but, usually takes at least a year and often two before the Foster Family may even know if the child's plan will lead to adoption. Some Foster to Adopt families do have very young babies placed that often lead to adoption...but, Fostering any child means the first goal is reunification with the biological family.

There are several blogs here that might help your friend make some decisions about what may work best for her.

Whose Home is This? - Blog Entry

Tomorrow morning my husband has his appointment with immigration. He was brought here at the age of 10 from Austria via Canada and is a "Legal Resident Alien." The process of renewing his status has taken about 6 months and cost several hundred dollars... Tomorrow he will be finger printed and his Face will be scanned along with his eyes for homeland security. Being a Legal Immigrant means NOT having the SAME rights that I do as an American. My husband does not have the right to privacy or the right to work or stay in the U.S. unless he follows the steps. He must keep his Canada Passport current and provide any and all documentation about himself the U.S. should request.

We THOUGHT it would be easier to re-new his legal status now before is expires and then finish all the steps to Citizenship so that my VOTE is not the Only Vote from our household.... At this point we wish we would have just done citizenship because being a LEGAL Immigrant requires effort and follow through....

No! I had an Imaginary Friend named "Sorry" talk about upsetting my mother! She thought for sure I had some sad dark reason for my Friend "Sorry"

My youngest son has an Imaginary Friend.... We allow this and I feel it is actually healthy for imagination and social skills. Our son started off pretending he was a Kitty and then one day his friend showed up! We do draw the line at setting an extra dinner plate and buying the friend toys!
