Have You Got Writer’s Block?

Working as a freelance writer can be a lot of fun. There are times, though, when it can be downright difficult. The creative nature of some writing assignments can be a breath of fresh air when you are feeling inspired. Of course, the thing about inspiration is that occasionally it can be hard to come by.

If you are currently feeling uninspired, do not despair. Your inspiration has not gone away for good, there is just something preventing it from flowing freely. That something is called writer’s block, and it happens to every writer from time to time. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to get through your writer’s block and keep on writing.

If your schedule permits, try working on a different project for a little while. Some writing projects do not require a great deal of creativity, and those are pretty easy to keep chugging along on while you wait out your bout of uninspiredness. However, make sure that you do not let a little break turn into major procrastination. If you find that you are still stuck after a little time has passed, try a different strategy.

Feeling overwhelmed can trigger writer’s block. If the sheer enormity of the task at hand has got you in a tizzy, sit down and make a plan to tackle it bit by bit. By working on bite – sized pieces of your project, one at a time, you can make something that was once overwhelming seem doable.

Every writer has their own personal favorite go – to tactic when it comes to writer’s block. My strategy of choice is to spend time outside. Even though I do most of my writing at night, sometimes a few minutes of sitting out on my deck, looking up at the stars helps me to get out of my own way and get back to writing. What is your favorite way to beat writer’s block?
