Freebies For You – Week of May 16, 2012

Freebies are fabulous! The best thing about a freebie is that you get a little something for free. It could be a free sample, a free magazine subscription, or even a free ebook. This week, I have found plenty of freebies that have something to do with good health and hygiene. Alliance Health will give you a FREE cookbook. It is from Diabetic Connect, and it is called “FREE Recipes for the Grill”. To get this freebie, you need to sign up with Diabetic Connect. Lactaid has a FREE sample of Lactaid Fast Act Dietary Supplements. This might be helpful … Continue reading

What is Dry Shampoo?

There’s a lot of ideas out there about the best way to care for your hair. Wash every day. Don’t wash every day. Air dry. Blow dry. My thoughts? What’s best for you and your hair might not work for another person. I like to wash my hair every day, but that’s as much for the shower-wakes-me-up sensation as the my-hair-gets-greasy-fast problem. And my method is in no way the last word in hair care! Lately I’ve been in on a bunch of conversations about dry shampoo, so I thought I’d share the info! First things first: what is dry … Continue reading

Adventures in Hair Removal: Nair

As I said when I broke up with my razor, I want to give a few other methods of hair removal a test run. Today I had my first date with a depilatory cream. The instructions are easy enough: smear on the cream, wash your hands, and wait. In as little as three minutes (or up to ten minutes) your legs will supposedly be hair free. After that, just wipe away the cream, rinse well, and enjoy your smooth new legs. Okay, I can do that. I’ll even take pictures because I’m sure you want a good look at my … Continue reading

Are You Too Focused on Your Child’s Looks?

Let’s face it, we are a society that is obsessed with youth and external looks can seem incredibly important. As parents, it can also be hard NOT to focus on what our children look like—are they wearing the “right” clothes? Do they have the “right” haircut? Are their teeth straight? Is there a line that we cross, however, between what is reasonable and what is obsessive? Recently, I was talking to a parent whose child has just been diagnosed with eczema. One of my own children had allergies when she was a preschooler that manifested itself with eczema so I … Continue reading

Natural Mouth Care

If you think you’re a little crazy about dental health, you aren’t alone. Americans spent nearly four million dollars on natural oral hygiene products in 2002 according to Nutrition Business Magazine — and that was a fifteen percent increase from 2001 spending. So why the increase in natural dental care products? People are more label-conscious these days. Not only do they read the labels, they worry about what’s on the label. Some people are choosing natural ingredients in their toothpaste and mouthwash because it’s tried and true. Herbal concoctions and essential oils have been used in health and beauty for … Continue reading

Battling Your Home’s Invisible Dangers

I spent the better part of this week battling a severe cold, sore throat, etc. The rest of the time was spent trying to figure out how it was that I got sick in the first place (I hate being sick and try to maintain a lifestyle that prevents me from having to deal with illnesses). The time I wasted trying to re-track my steps was fruitless, save for the fact that I stumbled upon some interesting information about hazardous pollutants that hide in all of our households (for about an hour I was convinced my sickness was triggered by … Continue reading
